The role requires strong industry knowledge and engagement with various internal and external stakeholders. The Sustainability Manager needs to understand the business conditions and industry landscape impacting sustainability to effectively develop and implement short term and long-term strategies and goals to achieve Honda's Sustainability targets with a mindset of continuous improvement.

The role will also represent Honda in relevant networks, forums and events related to sustainability, including participation in industry process alignment projects. The role requires the individual to be skilled in communication, both verbally and written, representing the Honda organization to the external community.Key AccountabilitiesDevelop and execute OEM Direct Supplier sustainability strategies aligned with Honda's objectives seeking to achieve sustainability excellence. Responsible to build relationships with key stakeholders, both internally and externally. Actively participate in industry initiatives to improve sustainability across the automotive industry focusing on the supply base. Represent Honda as the subject matter expert at various conferences, events, workshops and education forums to share Honda's direction and requirements. Collaborate with other Honda entities across North America as required.Supervise and oversee the sustainability team associates, mentoring on strong communication, organizational skills, critical thinking, and delegating challenging assignments. Create associate development plans to align with career interests. Support and empower the team members to improve their capabilities and achieve stretch goals. Promote strong performance and quickly address concerns.Manage achievement of KPI and Business Plan/Special Project targets and initiatives. Analyze results and lead team in countermeasure development for Unit improvement. This Includes ongoing reporting, analysis, verification, monthly assessments, key control points, questionnaires, as well as assessing the effectiveness of sustainability Initiatives.Responsible for developing and building supplier relationships, monitoring industry trends/characteristics. Lead efforts to build a sustainability culture though awareness, education and capability building, both internally and externally with the supply base.Clearly, consistently, and proactively provide direction and input to the global sustainability vision and corporate direction to team members and Honda Motor. Creating effective and measurable business plan themes directly linked to the corporate/business unit vision.

Qualifications, Experience, and Skills

Minimum Educational QualificationsBachelor's Degree in Business (preferred focus on sustainability) or relevant experience

Minimum Experience

10-12 yrs experience, depending upon education/degree and work experience

Other Job-Specific Skills

Strong communication skills: both verbal and written, Ability to work across industries to improve relationship of suppliers. Proficient in Microsoft, robust critical thinking and project management skills, good organization skills, leadership experience, strong presentation skills

Decisions Expected

Lead, research, define and mature recommended potential suppliers to NAAP department leadership to align with future Global and /or NA regional corporate sustainability targets.Provide direction and train direct report on all aspects of the R&R, aligning associates based on understanding of strengths and opportunities, monitor progress, and implement countermeasures when necessary.Set and manage the development of required budgets for outside organization and manage plan vs actual through evaluation process.Evaluate, select, and manage the outside organizations Honda determines to be business partners to further our sustainability mission to achieve corporate targets.Responsible to develop and implement supplier sustainability training and policy documents.Independently lead key negotiations with outside organizations and partners, and HDMA/AHM Leadership

Working Conditions

Domestic and International travel maybe required (5-10%)Willingness to work overtime due to the cyclical business needs of our Procurement Sustainability InitiativesOpen office environment with moderate level of noise and activity.Hybrid Work Environment (60% in office/40% remote)Regular occurrence of communicating and presenting information in group for evaluation purposes.
