Job Title: Phlebotomy Services Specialist Job Specialty: Inpatient Job Duration: 12 weeks Shift: Variable: 1:30 PM-10:00 PM, 5:00 AM-1:30 PM, 5:30 AM-2:00 PM. Requires every other weekend on the second shift Guaranteed Hours: 32 Experience: In-Patient experience; High-volume blood draw experience; Strong interpersonal skills; Experience with newborns preferred License: Not specified Certifications: ASCP certification preferred Must-Have: - Experience with Beaker/EPIC and Rover is preferred - Ability to work independently Job Description: - Perform phlebotomy and various technical, non-technical, and clerical tasks - Accurately and efficiently conduct venipuncture and capillary collections per laboratory protocols - Follow proper protocols for legal blood alcohol collections - Determine appropriate specimen requirements using standard collection techniques, evaluate acceptability of specimens, and maintain proper identification throughout the process - Obtain blood specimens via indwelling lines following universal safety precautions - Perform limited CLIA-waived testing according to laboratory protocols as defined by site assignment - Utilize laboratory information systems and electronic medical records efficiently to support laboratory services - Perform entry and/or release of laboratory orders and resolve sample ID and/or order problems - Contact patients for repeat draws as needed - Recognize specimen requirements and perform collection and handling per instructions - Prioritize specimen collections appropriately and respond to blood draw requests in a timely manner - Identify patients and label samples according to laboratory protocols; process specimens for transport to alternate testing sites - Perform EKGs, monitoring events, drug screen collection, breath alcohol testing, and spirometry as defined by site assignment - Set up cultures as per laboratory protocol as defined by site assignment - Maintain a clean, organized, and functional work area, stock supplies, and monitor expiration dates as applicable - Assist in training new employees and students in phlebotomy techniques and other duties - Perform maintenance duties and complete scheduled checklist duties accurately and timely Education: High School diploma or equivalent is required.
