This job description is intended to describe the general nature and level of work performed by employees assigned to this department. *GENERAL DUTIES** Assures the safe and effective delivery of radiation to achieve a therapeutic result as prescribed by the Medical Practitioner for each patient's plan of radiotherapy:- Develops and implements procedures for the initial and continuing evaluation of radiation therapy treatment, brachytherapy, simulation, and radiation measurement equipment.- Develops and/or evaluates the diametric component of patients' treatment plans.* Responsible for calibration and maintenance of equipment:- Serves as the focal point for machine maintenance and repair. Provides routine and special calibration checks of all radiation therapy equipment to satisfy state and federal requirements.- Practices radiation safety for the protection of the patients.- Determines if prescribed dose is being delivered within tolerances to patients by performing calculations of patient dose(s) or either therapeutic or diagnostic purposes.- Coordinates all preventative maintenance on all therapeutic machines. Troubleshoots all faults on equipment and arrange for equipment repairs.-Maintains proper records necessary for TJC, NRC, state, or other regulatory agencies.* Develops and manage a comprehensive Quality Management Program that monitors, evaluates, and optimizes radiation oncology processes:- Develops and/or evaluates policies and procedures related to the appropriate therapeutic use of radiation.* Develops and/or evaluate a comprehensive clinical radiation safety program in radiation oncology:- Provides evidence for compliance of equipment for radiation therapy treatment, brachytherapy, simulation, and radiation detection, with regulatory and accreditation agency rules and recommendations.- Develops and/or evaluate a comprehensive clinical radiation safety program in radiation oncology.* Provides radiation oncology physics and radiation dosimetry training for medical practitioners and other health-care providers:- Educates staff members, employees and students in physics, radiation safety and quality improvement.
*EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS** 2 years of Clinical Medical Physics (residency or beyond)
*EDUCATION QUALIFICATIONS** Required: Master's Degree Medical Physics, Radiological Physics or related filed* Preferred: Ph.D. in Medical Physics, Radiological Physics or related field
*LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS** Board eligible in Therapeutic Radiological Physics by the American Board of Radiology or the American Board of Medical Physics* Board certified by the American Board of Radiology or the American Board of Medical Physics
*SKILLS AND ABILITIES** Knowledge of the Radiation Oncology linear accelerator systems.* Ability to troubleshoot equipment calibration issues.* Knowledge of Radiation Oncology planning systems and equipment operations* Be thorough and pay attention to details
