Associate Director, IT Business Partner, Drug Development
within the R&D IS function. The R&D IS BP provides a single point of contact for designated R&D business functions and specifically serves as the strategic partner and trusted advisor to assigned Research & Non-Clinical Development (RNCD) functions. He or she plays a key role in creating and maintaining the IS strategy and roadmap for the respective areas of responsibility, aligned to business goals and identifying opportunities where IS can bring about efficiencies, embed quality, and drive business innovation. The IS business partner leads the delivery of the roadmap and ensures effective adoption of new solutions. In addition, the IS business partner is responsible for managing the operational support activities for their portfolio of IS systems, including resource planning and budgets. The IS business partner maintains a sharp focus on delivering operational efficiencies across the enterprise and promotes the best possible customer experience.Essential FunctionsBusiness Partnership & Strategic Planning
- This position ensures the strategic use of technology capabilities and business process improvements to drive business growth. Builds and manages effective relationships with the respective RNCD stakeholders. Partners with business functions to develop, maintain, and communicate aligned IS strategies while overseeing implementation of IS projects in support of the strategy. Participates in the prioritization of the RNCD systems portfolio and represents the portfolio to stakeholders. Maintains a pulse on industry technology trends/initiatives and communicates to appropriate business and IS staff. Serves as a thought leader and change agent to drive results.
Business Knowledge
- Develops a detailed understanding of related business processes to serve as subject matter expert on behalf of business stakeholders as new technology solutions and enhancements are implemented. Applies knowledge of the pharmaceutical industry, maintains awareness of the competitive environment, and exhibits knowledge seeking and sharing best practices.
Project Management
- Provides oversight and hands-on project management for related technology initiatives. Manages internal/external team members in executing the project management & software development lifecycles, driving adoption, and measuring the value/effectiveness of implemented systems & processes. Ensures teams embrace GxP, IS Compliance, IS Security, SOX, data privacy, and other risk management considerations, and that they are embedded in projects and operations.
Portfolio and Budget Management
- Work with the RNCD leaders and IS/R&D IS Portfolio leads to manage the R&D IS project portfolio, ensuring strategic alignment with organizational goals and effective prioritization of projects while sustaining the technology ecosystem for optimal execution.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesServed as an IS/IT business relationship manager or IS/IT consultant to Research, Discovery, Medicinal Chemistry, or Early Development within a pharma organization with a proven track record of delivering business and technical solutions. This includes leading business process improvement initiatives and leading the selection and deployment of new technologies. Demonstrated experience in supporting pharma R&D teams.
Managed projects and services related to software technology implementations or enablement of technology capabilities. Direct experience or knowledge of Research, Discovery, Medicinal Chemistry, or Early Development software systems/solutions (E.g. Electronic Lab Notebook) is preferred.
Strong understanding of pharma R&D drug development lifecycle and specifically pre-clinical and early development business processes and related domain knowledge.
Robust project management experience in an international, team-oriented cross-functional environment. Managed project teams of varying size and resource mix/skill sets.
Organizational change management experience, leveraging key change management principles and tools for the rollout of new capabilities and introduction of change to the business. In addition, drove the adoption of new business processes and supported IS capabilities.
Experience managing internal and external teams to deliver solutions leveraging mobile, cloud, business intelligence, portals, web, and other emerging technologies.
Experience in Agile SDLC methodologies. Instills an Agile and continuous improvement culture.
Vendor management experience including vendor evaluation/selection, due diligence, contracting, and performance management. Fosters partnerships and contracts which result in competitive investment for Jazz and maximizes the efficiency of vendor performance.
Managed financials for projects and IS operations.
Proven leadership skills motivating teams to attain critical goals in a dynamic environment with competing priorities and changing deadlines.
Team builder/player able to work effectively with others across global teams.
Ability to build strong working relationships across all levels throughout an organization.
