Our comprehensive pediatric programs and services are designed to bring hope and healing to children and adolescents who face complex psychiatric, behavioral and neurodevelopmental disorders. We strive to cater our approach to treatment to the needs of each child who comes into our care.

Treatment programs at Laurel Heights Hospital are structured for youth ages 6–17 who are dealing with general psychiatric difficulties and trauma. We also offer specialty mental health programs for children with co-occurring neurodevelopmental disabilities, including Autism Spectrum Disorders.

Responsibilities include but not limited to:

Effectively interviews children, family members and guardians to conduct functional assessment and identify preliminary issues for treatment.

Coordinates and develops treatment plans and behavior plans that integrate information obtained by comprehensive and ongoing assessments by the multidisciplinary team.

Proficient in the application of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) in the treatment of children and adolescents with autism and severe behavior problems.

Effective communications with children, using a communication method within their repertoire.

Provides ongoing clinical and administrative supervision to Residential Instructors and Behavior specialist including 90- day, quarterly, and annual evaluations as well as informal and formal job coaching and disciplinary action.

Develops and modifies discharge plan in conjunction with the parents, and treatment team based on an ongoing assessment of needs.

Includes child, family, and guardian in appropriate transition efforts with respect to discharge status, discharge planning referrals/assistance; services provided; aftercare plan and recommendations.

Demonstrates a thorough understanding of Autism Spectrum Disorders and effective interventions to increase communication, socialization, and daily basic living skills.

Demonstrates "cultural competence", by an understanding of the culture and values of different family systems and the ability to adjust approaches to successful engage families in treatment.

Qualifications:

Master's Degree in Social Work or any combination of an equivalent degree

Must be BCBA Board Certified

Education or training in Applied Behavior Analysis(ABA) and Autism, experience in inpatient setting preferred

Written and oral communication skills, skills in case management, and crisis intervention common to acute psychotic as well as to non-violent crisis intervention practice

Knowledge of acute adolescent/child developmental and psychological disorders, advanced principals of abnormal psychology as specifically applied to population

Familiarity with follow-up resource services available to children

Skills in conducting individual group and family therapy

Skills in maintain information as highly confidential

Must have to ability to clearly summarize pertinent clinical information via written correspondence and medical records documentation.

Physical and Mental Requirements of job:

Ability to stop, kneel, crouch, reach, walk, push, pull, lift, moving about in work area and throughout organization to accomplish tasks

Ability to express and exchange ideas via spoken work, conveying information to others in an audible, accurate and, on occasion, quick manner

Work requires visual acuity to read, prepare, and analyze date, transcriptions, and characters on computer terminal

Visual inspection of documents, and similar objects or items at distances generally close to the eyes

Must be flexible in work hours in order to meet patient and organization operating needs

Must maintain self-control in volatile or hostile situations such as when verbally or physically confronted

Visual Acuity:

this is a minimum standard for use with those whose work deals largely with preparing and analyzing data and figures, accounting, transcription, computer terminal, excessive reading, visual inspection involving small defects, small parts, operation of machines (including inspect), using measurement devices, assembly or fabrication of parts at distances close to the eyes.
