PRIMARY FUNCTION: The main function of this employee is to proactively utilize all available technology and law enforcement partnerships to monitor, detect, review, assess and communicate potential threats to the educational environment of all schools, departments and divisions operated by Mobile County Public Schools, as well as raise awareness about digital threats and online safety among students, employees, parents/guardians and community stakeholders. QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution with a degree in Criminal Justice, Law Enforcement, Cybersecurity, Information Technology, Computer Science or a related field. Five years of successful experience in cybersecurity and/or law enforcement technology. Knowledge of standard security and technology procedures and best practices. Ability to meet suitability criteria for employment and/or certification/licensure under the Alabama Child Protection Act of 1999 and Act No. 2002-457. Must hold a valid Alabama Driver's license and maintain it during employment. Must be 21 years old or older. Ability to be punctual and maintain regular attendance. Ability to establish and maintain collaborative working relationships with all stakeholders. Ability to work independently as well as work cooperatively in a team environment. Must be willing to work a flexible schedule. Must be able to successfully complete and stay current with ongoing training requirements at an acceptable performance level. Ability to ensure that threats are addressed in a manner consistent with the MCPSS Student Code of Conduct and/or pertinent municipal, state or federal law. Ability to maintain strict confidentiality at all times. LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to communicate fluently in English, both verbally and in writing. Ability to effectively present information and respond effectively to questions in one-on-one and small and large group settings to school district leadership, board members, parents, students, employees, local authorities, law enforcement organizations, and community stakeholders. Ability to verbally respond to common inquiries. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, governmental regulations, and any other documents deemed necessary to conduct the requirements of the job. Ability to draft routine reports and correspondence that conforms to prescribed style and format. INTERPERSONAL SKILLS: Works well with others from diverse backgrounds and cultures. Focuses on monitoring and addressing threats, communicating threat information to appropriate entities, maintaining confidentiality, listening to others without interrupting, keeping emotions under control, and ensuring the safety and security of students and employees. COMPUTER SKILLS: Exceptionally strong knowledge of computers, emerging technologies, security and/or surveillance equipment, and all platforms/methods by which threats can be communicated. Utilize all available technology, including digital communication and online activity, as well as communication with law enforcement partners and relevant authorities to proactively monitor, detect, review, and assess potential threats to schools, departments, and divisions. Communicate potential threats to the Director of Safety and Security and Superintendent with immediacy and accuracy in emergent, fluctuating situations. Coordinate with law enforcement and other relevant authorities to manage and respond to digital threats effectively, minimizing disruption to the school/work environment and ensuring swift resolution. Interact professionally with all law enforcement organizations, relevant authorities, and school district employees, with the ability to calmly assess solutions and/or implement processes during critical events. Maintain student, school, and district confidentiality. Implement new systems or procedures, as needed, to detect and assess threats more effectively and efficiently. Collaborate with school district and school administrators to develop and update policies that address digital safety and response strategies. Coordinate training sessions for employees, students, and community stakeholders on recognizing and reporting digital threats, as well as best practices for online security. Collaborate with parents/guardians to increase awareness about digital threats and provide guidance on supporting district/school safety initiatives at home. Communicate effectively and work collaboratively with law enforcement personnel, administrators, employees, students, and community stakeholders. Participate in security risk assessment meetings with school and district administration and local law enforcement agencies and other relevant authorities. Assist school administration with threat assessments and responses as appropriate. Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Safety and Security and/or Superintendent. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The employee is expected to walk distances, run, sit, climb, kneel, crouch, bend, crawl, handle certain equipment, reach overhead, feel, talk, hear, smell, speak fluently in English, write fluently in English, speak in a clear/audible voice register, and distinguish colors. OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES: Testify in court as needed. Perform other related duties as assigned. EVALUATION Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on Evaluation of Classified Employees. Evaluation will be by the Director of Safety and Security and Superintendent. TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT 12-months (260 days) 8 hours per day. Daily work schedule is normally 7:00 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. (hours may vary in the Summer or vary by shifts if assigned) but will be determined by the Director of Safety and Security and Superintendent. Due to the unpredictable nature of security threats, the employee will be on call 24 hours per day, 7 days per week, 365 days per year. Work schedules are subject to change. At Will Employee subject to the Students First Act of 2011 and other applicable state and federal laws. SALARY $85,000 - $105,000 annually, depending on experience.
