MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Experience: Master's degree or higher in Educational Leadership, Curriculum and Instruction, or a related leadership field or work experience; Tier I Leadership Certification.
GOAL:
This position provides support to all programs of the school. The Assistant Principal works closely with the principal to ensure that all programs of the school are properly explained, implemented, supervised, utilized, and refined. The Assistant Principal must communicate effectively with a wide variety of groups including students, teachers, parents, fellow administrators, support staff, custodial staff, central office staff, and community members.
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:Provides leadership in curriculum and instruction to teachers; facilitates meetings.Participates in grade level planning, curriculum, and PLCs.Evaluates and counsels all staff members and school policies and procedures as stated by published guidelines and current administrative interpretations.Member of Leadership Team, and leads/supports the discipline task force.Guards health and safety of students in all school situations.Establishes safety protocol: communicates updates to relevant staff, as needed.Instructs faculty and staff in safety procedures.Develops/conducts routine safety drills and records participation.Establishes and enforces guidelines for proper student conduct in maintaining student discipline.Develops and updates staff duties/responsibilities schedules.Documents discipline infractions into the student information system accurately.Conducts classroom evaluations and provides feedback.Monitors student attendance to assure that students are in compliance with state attendance policies.Supervises maintenance of the facility, and reports maintenance issues to appropriate personnel.Ensures that the school facility is an attractive, pleasant and productive place in which to learn and work.Handles routine practices effectively and keeps accurate records.Keeps abreast of new materials, learning techniques, and developments in the profession by attending meetings and reading journals/publications.Supervises various extra-curricular and after school care activities, as appropriate.Facilities parent-teacher meetings when needed in regard to academic, attendance, and discipline concerns. Attends and/or leads SST, IEP, and 504 meetings when needed.Maintains and consistently provides a fair and equitable discipline program for all students.Address discipline issues when referred by teachers.Monitors and evaluates the implementation of a standards-based curriculum.Monitors student academic progress to ensure learning goals are being met.Assists teachers in implementing research-based interventions.Leads job embedded professional learning by developing and maintaining a personal plan for self-improvement.Assists principal in recruiting, selecting and hiring qualified and effective personnel and monitors teachers' certification status.Enforces policies,procedures and guidelines identified in the system personnel handbook.Communicates effectively with teachers, students, parents, committees, and central office personnel.Ability to be regularly, predictably, and reliably at work.Constant and consistent ability to supervise staff and/or students required.
