Key responsibilities include managing employee investigations, FMLA, open enrollment, and safety initiatives, while also assisting with Department of Labor/Unemployment matters. The role requires learning American Sign Language (ASL) to manage HR duties for deaf/hard of hearing staff.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
include the following. Other duties may be assigned.Employee RelationsInvestigates and addresses employee relation issues.Facilitates mediation and guides managers on evaluations.Recommends and implements disciplinary actions and terminations.Assists temp staff in securing new positions.
Benefits and Open EnrollmentSupports employee enrollment in insurance benefits year-round and during open enrollment.Conducts benefit training for new hires and management.Facilitates FMLA and other medical leave processes.Organizes staff Benefit Days and events.
UnemploymentCommunicates with the DOL regarding unemployment cases.Prepares organizational responses for claims.Represents the organization at hearings if needed.
ASL Program DutiesLearns ASL for effective communication.Coordinates hiring and staffing changes for ASL programs.Ensures timely and accurate completion of hire/transfer forms.Conducts recruitment and training for ASL program staff.
SUPERVISOR RESPONSIBILITIESNo direct reports, but the HR Generalist guides management in supervising and evaluating employees, making hiring and termination recommendations as necessary.
QUALIFICATIONSBachelor's degree in Human Resources or Organizational Psychology preferred; or a high school diploma/GED with three years of progressive HR experience.SHRM or HRCI certification in HR is strongly preferred.Strong analytical, writing, and communication skills required, including fluency or willingness to become fluent in ASL.
SALARY$47,458/yr, increases to $52,685/yr after successfully completing 6 month introductory period.
