Position Specific Description

Our Network Engineering team has an opening for a Senior Network Security Engineer with 7 years’ experience in the field. This individual should have a deep understanding of hybrid cloud security architecture while leveraging best of breed security services and products from AWS, Check Point, Palo Alto and Cisco.

This position will have influence over the security strategy, design, implementation and maintainance of the security network infrastructure that supports NextEra Energy and its subsidiaries - Florida Power & Light (FPL) and/or Nextera Entergy Resources (NEER).

The position reports directly to the IT Network Manager with work locations available in Miami-Dade, Broward or Palm Beach counties.

In this position you will work with some of the brightest minds in the clean energy and utility industry as they work to ensure NextEra is the largest and most capable clean energy provider in North America and the best electric utility in the world.

Job Duties & Responsibilities

• Understand advances and changes in the technology industry and work directly with equipment manufactures to assess new technologies and recognize how these changes can be applied to provide solutions to our business environment, to increase availability, reliability, business agility or reduce operating costs

• Analyze the business requirements of new projects requested by the FPL or NEER subsidiaries and help design network solutions that will support their implementation. Projects include infrastructure to support our back office functions, wind, solar, nuclear and fossil plants, energy trading and SCADA IoT systems

• Under limited supervision, contribute in a hands-on manner with the implementation of network infrastructure

• Create as-built design documentation for all new projects and maintain the availability and integrity of our enterprise network security infrastructure

• Maintain the security of network infrastructure and compliance with all applicable industry and security standards (NERC CIP, PCI, SOX etc.)

• Act as the 3rd level of engineering escalation for issues encountered within the network security and cloud environments

• Expertise in Automation Tools (Chef, Puppet or Ansible) on AWS Services and scripting languages (Ruby, Perl, Python PowerShell or other) preferred

• Candidate will be responsible for providing support to complex application, performance and infrastructure issues leveraging cloud monitoring tools

• Identifies process improvements, inefficiencies, develops policies and procedures

• Collaborates with NextEra’s engineering and architecture groups; works with project team members to define requirements and deliver projects

• Partners with Architects and project teams, to ensure integration of application / infrastructure architectures with enterprise blueprints and roadmaps

• Provides project oversight and support, to ensure implementations are consistent with defined architecture as well as consistent with business needs

• Excellent oral, written and organizational skills and the ability to multi-task projects with exceptional interpersonal skills and strong analytical skills

• Performs other job-related duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

• Education - Bachelor’s Degree

• Experience – 7+ years of relevant industry experience with large enterprise networking, diverse security infrastructure and in-depth knowledge of current network hardware and protocols

Preferred Qualifications

• Education – Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or other advanced science or engineering field

• Certification – Palo Alto PCNSE, AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Associates, Cisco CCNP

• Other - Experience with Jira, Agile methodologies and Kanban systems.

Job Overview

This role is responsible for assisting with the design, leading the implementation, and supporting the maintenance of our enterprise network infrastructure. Employees in this role work directly with management, project managers, and business leaders to ensure that projects are successfully delivered on-time and within budget. This position acts as an escalation point for issues that are encountered in our 24x7 environment to ensure that the availability and performance of our systems is maintained. Employees also ensure that all documentation is accurate and up-to-date and that our infrastructure remains secure at all times.

Job Duties & Responsibilities

• Works directly with equipment manufactures to assess new technologies and how they can be applied to provide solutions to increase availability, reliability, and business agility or to reduce operating costs

• Analyzes new projects and designs network solutions that will support their implementation

• Participates in the implementation of network infrastructure

• Creates as-built design documentation for all new projects and network engineering efforts, and ensures they remain up-to-date as the network evolves

• Maintains the availability and integrity of our enterprise network infrastructure, including wired and wireless networks, network security infrastructure, and voice transport infrastructure

• Maintains the security of network infrastructure and compliance with all applicable industry and security standards

• Acts as the highest level of engineering escalation for issues encountered within the network environment and security environments

• Demonstrates experience with network management operational tools such as Cisco Prime, Netscout, and IBM Tivoli

• Performs other job-related duties as assigned
