The Distribution Technician is responsible for performing semi-skilled to journey-level duties in operating, maintaining, and monitoring the injection recharge system and associated distribution systems.

Examples of Duties

The following essential job functions are typical for this classification. Operates, repairs, and maintains wells, pipelines, and related equipment.Collects water samples and levels from wells.Collects and organizes a variety of data retrieved from field activities.Operates a variety of tools, instrumentation, and electric devices.Assists in performing a variety of tests related to injection well operation.Coordinates the injection well operations with water treatment plant operations.Operates and maintains injection barrier wells and pipeline systems.Conducts pressure profiles at injection wells.Redevelops injection wells.Works with subcontractors to restore well sites, perform special sampling, or well rehabilitation.Assists in acquiring special permits from various agencies.Respond to emergencies related to District injection and Distribution facilities.Performs work in both non-permitted and permitted confined spaces.Take neat, accurate, and complete field notes.Assists on-call 24/7 with the ability to return to the site within 45 minutes of callback if required.Handles job stress.Interacts effectively with others in the workplace and the public.Follows all workplace and job safety rules and policies.Performs other duties of a similar nature or level as required.Typical Qualifications

The following generally describes the knowledge and ability required to enter the job and/or be learned within a short period of time in order to successfully perform the assigned duties.

Knowledge of:

Water sampling and level monitoring equipment and sampling techniques.Safety principles.Basic Electrical systems.Water distribution system principles.Ability and Skills in

:

Using computer hardware and applicable software applications.Collecting, organizing, and inputting data into Excel databases.Operating and troubleshooting a variety of pumps, motors, valves, hydraulic, and electrical systems.Operating high-volume air compressor and forklift.Collecting water samples and levels.Communication and interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisors, the general public, etc. sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction.Documenting field activities in a neat, concise, and complete manner.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE GUIDELINES

Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

Education/Training:

High School Diploma or General Equivalency Degree. Some positions may require a Water Distribution Certification.

Experience:

Two years of related work experience demonstrating mechanical aptitude or two years of related field experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.

License:

Valid California Class "C" Driver's License. Depending on the needs of the District, some positions may require a California Class "B" Commercial Driver's License.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT

Physical:

Positions in this class typically require climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motions. Very Heavy Work: Exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Incumbents may be subjected to moving mechanical parts, electrical currents, vibrations, fumes, odors, dust, gases, poor ventilation, chemicals, oils, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, workspace restrictions, intense noises and travel. Required to wear personal protective clothing/equipment appropriate for job assignments including SCBA. Must comply with the District's Respiratory Protection Program and CAL OSHA Safety Regulations. Incumbents require sufficient physical ability to work in an office setting; stand or sit for prolonged periods of time; operate office equipment including the use of a computer keyboard; push, pull, lift, and/or carry light amounts of weight; verbally communicate to exchange information.

Vision:

See in the normal visual range with or without correction; vision sufficient to read computer screens and printed documents; and to operate assigned equipment.

Hearing:

Hear in the normal audio range with or without correction.

DISASTER SERVICE WORKERS

All Orange County Water District employees are designated Disaster Service Workers through state law (California Government Code Section 3100-3109). Employees are required to complete all related training as assigned and to return to work as ordered in the event of an emergency.

Supplemental Information

Schedule:

9/80 with alternating Fridays off. Mon-Fri hours: 6:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.Will be required to work on-call standby rotation with the ability to be on-site within 45 minutes of being called. This position reports to the Fountain Valley location.
