About this role
The Manager of Mine Optimization is responsible for improving the strategic mine planning process for operations and projects at sites and regions through the applied use and understanding of mathematical optimization technology and tools. The incumbent will support and contribute to the research and development of state-of-the-art mine planning systems and seek out and identify value add opportunities in the mine planning process at regional and site levelsSupervises a optimization model development by third party consultants. The position is responsible for establishing the scope of the model development and ensuring it is suitable for strategic resource development engagements and long term planning work. Assist in the mentoring and development of a global pool of Newmont modelers and mining engineers
Your role will consist of
Support strategic planning engagements, building production system models to evaluate strategic alternativesSupport Long-Term mine planning engineers in the development of strategic mine plans and Full Potential initiatives through the use of advanced Operation Research techniques.Conduct original research and development on cutting edge mine planning and resource modeling systems through independent study or collaboration with academic and/or industry groups.Assist in the development of an optimization systems blueprint and future path for the optimization process and tools across Newmont.Provide expert advice and training on the application of OR and Machine Learning methodologies and tools.Your training, skills, and experience checklist
A graduate degree, preferably a PhD, in a minerals related field, with advanced studies in mathematics, computer science and/or operational research.Strong capabilities and experience in optimization model development specific to the mining or earth sciences industriesIn excess of 5 years exposure to several gold and multi-element base metals mine operations and projects, having different mining and processing methods.High level of competence and experience in a range of mine software applications, including optimization techniques and cash flow analysis.Mining, construction, utilities or other heavy industry experience is preferred.Proficient software development capabilities (Python, C++, C#, SQL, cloud computing) and optimization solvers (CPLEX, Gurobi)Working conditions and location
The primary location for this position is Newmont's headquarters in Denver, CO. However, qualified candidates in proximity to our operations or regional offices are also encouraged to apply as relocation assistance and/or flexible work arrangements may be considered.Position is required to travel to and assist other domestic and international sites.

The salary range offered for this role is USD $120,480 - 143,070. The salary range is tied to the Colorado market for jobs performed in Colorado. The salary offer to the successful candidate will be based on job-related education, training, and/or experience. The salary offer will not be based on a candidate's salary history at other jobs, and by law, Newmont will not seek information about salary history, and candidates should not share such information with Newmont.
This role will be eligible for participation in a discretionary annual bonus program, pursuant to which an employee may be awarded a percentage of their salary based on the company's performance and their own individual performance.
