Position Title: Freight/Dock Operations

Department: Metlakatla Flight Operations

Reporting To: Metlakatla Station Supervisor

Role Summary:

Freight / Dock employees are responsible for the pickup and delivery of mail daily; transference of mail / freight to and from aircraft; assisting with the loading and unloading of aircraft as well as the handling of the aircraft. They maintain the freight equipment keeping work areas clean and organized. It is important that they are willing to work with other departments such as flight following, maintenance and other areas of the flight program as needed and are in close and regular coordination with the Ketchikan operations team.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties Include, but are not limited to:

Incorporate the companies Vision, Mission, and Values in all interactions with peers, customers, and stakeholders.Acceptance of freight ensuring proper storage.Ability to identify and properly handle hazardous material.Assists in launching, loading, and unloading aircraft.Assists pilots in docking / turning out aircraft.Assure aircraft are secured when docked.Make sure docks, ramps and ropes are in good condition.Keep work areas clean and organized.Always maintain communication with the flight following department.At the end of the day make sure the mail van is fueled, locked and the key left in the appropriate location.Check with the Supervisor for projects to fill in gaps between flights or during weather delays.Report all hazards or safety concerns to a supervisor as soon as possible.Be respectful and mindful of passengers walking down the ramp towards the aircraft.Other duties as assigned.Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

Ability to effectively interact and communicate with peers and other department employees.Ability to be a self-starter who manages work and schedule to meet all deadlines and expectations under minimal supervision.Must be able to effectively operate the company's freight and dock equipment.Must be trained and proficient in the Safety Management System web application.Skilled in problem solving, able to identify solutions, and execute standard processes.Ability to work effectively in a team environment, collaborate across work segments with diverse personalities and department requirements.Ability to have reliable attendance and be flexible in working early mornings, an evening, or weekend day when workloads are excessive and recognize opportunities to contribute to other areas when individual workloads are light.Ability to conduct oneself with the highest level of integrity.Experience/Education Requirements:

A valid driver's license is with a clean driving record.No criminal convictions.Minimum 21 Years old.
