Emergency Preparedness Assistant - LTE Casual

Position Summary:
Reporting to the Emergency Management Director, the Emergency Preparedness Assistant is a limited-term, casual position responsible for leading department volunteers with efforts in emergency preparedness, planning, response, and recovery activities. Activities are primarily focused within the Medical Reserve Corp but may involve work within the Emergency Operations Center or a Multi-Agency Resource Center as well. The employee may work up to approximately 24 hours per pay period (bi-weekly) unless circumstances require additional hours. Schedule will be determined by the employee's availability and department needs. This temporary position has approved funding through May 2025.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The following duties are typical for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.Leads, coordinates, and supervises the activities associated with the Medical Reserve Corp or other volunteer groups involved with emergency management.
Aids in developing, coordinating, and tracking of training, exercises, and deployments of team members.
Assists in the group's financial and budgeting process.
Assists in developing, implementing, and maintaining the County's Emergency Operations Plans, including the Emergency Support Functions as directed.
Supports local Emergency Medical Services, health department, social services department, and other public safety agencies with their preparedness and response activities.
Assists or leads in outreaches, presentations, and instruction as assigned.
Assists in the Emergency Operations Center as needed.
Provides planning assistance for preparedness, response, and recovery plans using the Whole Community concept.
Develops and presents public educational programs.
Follows requirements of state and federal grants.
Maintains communication platforms.
Maintains accountability for members and oversees the safety of team members.
Maintains regular and predictable attendance and works overtime/extra hours as required.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent, and a Wisconsin valid driver's license and a driving record that meets County standards.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required to Perform Essential Job Functions:
Ability to operate a variety of office equipment.
Knowledge of and skill in the use of computer databases.
Knowledge of the principles, practices, and concepts of Emergency Management.
Knowledge of the applicable laws and standards of volunteers.
Ability to transport oneself to and from various locations in an efficient, timely, and safe manner.
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, divide, calculate decimals and percentages, and make use of the principles of descriptive statistics.
Ability to organize and record various reports, plans, and other documents.
Ability to work and communicate effectively verbally and in writing with government officials, public safety agencies, industry, and the public.
Ability to work in a collaborative manner within members of the public and community.
Excellent oral and written communication abilities.
Knowledge of the National Incident Management System.
Ability to wear personal protective equipment.
Minimum Training and Experience Required to Perform Essential Job Functions:
Background in Emergency Medical Service or emergency preparedness, response, or recovery related field.
Experience working in a supervisory role.
Incident Command System coursework.
Compensation:
Starting at $26.00 per hour. This is a limited-term casual position and not eligible for benefits.
