Position Summary:This is a field-based position, critical to maintaining excellent relationships with key managed market decision makers to build outstanding disease state and product awareness. This role will communicate new trends and feedback on the market environment to external/internal customers; collect insights from managed market customers and share with internal stakeholders in order to shape/adjust strategies. This is a field role and may cover a broad geography supporting national and high priority regional payer accounts.
Key Responsibilities Include:Demonstrate leadership in establishing and maintaining excellent relationships with national and/or regional managed market decision makers, channel customers, and specialty pharmacies to provide comprehensive medical and scientific education and health outcomes research solutions that improve patient care within a cost-conscious healthcare environment.Establish and foster relationships with commercial and government payers with the end goal of building advocacy.Lead medical plan development for strategic approaches with payer customers and engage as a credible and knowledgeable medical resource for accurate and updated scientific, clinical and health economics and outcomes information with payers. Assures that scientific and product information is current, relevant and readily available, in accordance with the company guidelines.Assist with development, coordination, and approval of resources for field use.Work independently to effectively communicate and represent US payer needs on cross-functional groups, including global market access and brand planning teams. Identifies and integrates market trends into business planning and strategies with external, as well as internal customers. Demonstrates leadership when working with colleagues and across medical, commercial, and market access groups to achieve shared goals.Engage in meaningful scientific discussions about Apellis products, disease states, our products in development as well as the clinical and health outcomes data available. Understand how the impact of disease and the treatments impact a patient population and their reported outcomes.Exhibit knowledge of health economics and communicates cost effectiveness and budget impact models to the managed care community.
Education, Registration & Certification:Advanced scientific or clinical degree (PharmD, Ph.D., MD, Fellowship in HEOR, Health Economist)Experience:Minimum 5 years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry or similar healthcare practice experience with a managed markets or outcomes focus. Experience in the field of rare diseases (nephrology and hematology) and ophthalmology preferred but not required. Able to work independently in field location (with 50% travel).
Skills, Knowledge & Abilities:Knowledgeable in managed care, regulatory, commercial and clinical issues affecting the pharmaceutical and managed market industry.Excellent communication and formal presentation skills, organizational skills and ability to manage several projects simultaneously.Demonstrated business acumen, relationship building and cross functional teamwork skills and ability to leverage relationships to build advocacy and support.
