Employee Relations Manager

Reports to:

Director of Human Resources

Location:

Houston, Texas

Schedule:

Monday through Friday; 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM; Weekends and overtime may be required.

Pay Scale:

Commensurate with experience and skills

This position will support the Director of Human Resources in handling the Employee Relations function. Position consists of assisting in resolving various issues and concerns arising during the life cycle of employment and managing. This position will be responsible for conducting investigations and responding to employee concerns and accommodation requests.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Serves as the first point of contact for employees regarding complaints, grievances, and other issues, ensuring prompt and thorough responsesConduct detailed investigations into employee complaints, including interviews, documentation, and follow-upMaintain detailed and accurate documentation of all employee relations issues and investigations, ensuring compliance with company policies and applicable lawsAdvise and guide managers and supervisors on employee relations matters, providing guidance on conflict resolution, disciplinary actions, and performance managementManage and respond to unemployment claims, ensuring timely submission of documentation and supporting evidenceAssist in resolving employee relation issues and facilitate conflict resolution between employees and supervisorsUtilize independent judgment and best practices in conducting investigation and recommending resolutions for HR Director's approval; write investigation summaries and reportsWork with management on employee performance issues, support progressive discipline, guide supervisors, and prepare documentation for HR and legal review as requiredProvide general guidance to managers and supervisors regarding labor and employment law compliance, wage/hour laws, sexual harassment, and discrimination prevention, etc.Maintain knowledge of legal requirements related to day-to-day management of employees, reducing legal risks, and ensuring complianceRespond to written and verbal inquiries from a variety of internal and external sourcesConduct stay and exit interviewsPartner with outside counsel and outside agencies when neededCreate and maintain complaint tracking systemCreate and manage administration of employee ambassador programOther responsibilities/accountabilities as needed relevant to employee relationsQualifications

REQUIREMENTS

Requires a minimum of 5 years generalist experience with a heavy emphasis on employee relationsStrong working knowledge of employment law and regulations including Title VII, DOL, FMLA, ADA, FLSA, ERISA, COBRA, PPACA, Section 125 and unemployment and labor relationsLicense(s)

:

HR Certification (SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, SPHR, PHR, etc.) or willingness to obtain within 12 months of hire dateExcellent negotiation and relational skills w/the ability to exercise sound judgment and make decisions in a consistent mannerDemonstrated ability and track record of managing complex and sensitive performance and employee relations issuesAbility to manage, counsel and resolve various and numerous issues/concerns on a daily basisStrong problem solving, ethical, and analytical skillsAbility to maintain strict confidentiality, with the ability to navigate sensitive issues tactfully and effectivelyAbility to be objective, discreet, organized and detail orientedDemonstrated experience in working with Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPointExcellent writing, interpersonal and customer service skillsAbility to work under limited supervision following standardized practices and/or methodsLEADERSHIP REQUIREMENTS
