DIRECTOR OF SECURITY
We are excited to invite a passionate and experienced Director of Security to join our team! Homes for the Homeless (HFH) is searching for an experienced Director of Security for our City Sanctuary Facility for Families w/ Children in Staten Island, NY. As the Director of Security, you will play a pivotal role in our organization, overseeing the performance of our dedicated Safety Supervisors and Safety Aides in ensuring a collaborative and supportive environment, where our team can excel and provide the best safety to our families. Homes for the Homeless operates shelters for families experiencing homelessness in NYC. Our family residences are more than just a place to sleep. Families can make the most of their stay through accessing an array of onsite programs. Many of these programs are also available to people living in the local community. Our goal is to have a positive impact so families can thrive long after they leave our shelters.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Plan, coordinate, supervise and evaluate safety activities and regulations of the facility; coordinate public safety issues and programs with facility administration.
Develop policies and procedures to implement directives from facility administration and/or central office management.
Control exiting and entry of residents/staff/visitors.
Review performance and effectiveness of safety procedure and consult with Administrator regarding any changes or issues.
Ensure the proper and timely reporting of incidents to Facility Administration and central office management.
Attend meetings or workshops to keep abreast of current trends in public safety.
Train and supervise subordinate personnel.
Communicate effectively orally and in writing; establish and maintain effective working relationships with subordinates, peers, supervisors, and clients.
Exercise sound judgment in evaluating situations and in making decisions.
Inspect entire facility physical premises and all residential units to ensure compliance with FDNY and DHS guidelines.
Act as liaison with NYPD/FDNY as required.
Maintain fire safety regulations.
Ensure that certificates of fitness are current for all security staff for fire guard/fire safety coordinator.
Ensure that all staff are following their mandated certifications and licenses.
QUALIFICATIONS
A minimum of 3-5 years’ supervisor experience.
Law enforcement experience, a plus.
Valid NYS Security License.
Current 8-hour annual certificate.
Fire Guard (F-02).
Certificate of Fitness (F-80).
All licenses and certifications must be obtained within 3 months of employment.
Fluency in languages other than English, particularly Spanish strongly preferred.
