Position Purpose:

We are seeking an experienced, proactive, and detail-oriented Compliance Manager to assist the Chief Compliance Officer (CCO) in ensuring our company maintains full compliance with all applicable federal and state regulations. As a key player in the company’s compliance program, you will help develop, implement, and manage the compliance framework while overseeing day-to-day compliance operations, ensuring adherence to mortgage lending laws and regulations, and managing compliance risk.
This role is critical in supporting the growth of the business, maintaining a robust compliance culture, and helping drive operational excellence in a fast-paced, startup environment. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in mortgage compliance, leadership experience, and the ability to operate strategically and tactically.
ResponsibilitiesCompliance Program Development and Oversight:
Assist the CCO in designing, implementing, and continuously improving the company’s compliance program, policies, and procedures to ensure alignment with federal and state regulations.
Oversee the company’s adherence to key regulatory requirements including RESPA, TILA, ECOA, HMDA, SAFE Act, Fair Lending, and state-specific mortgage lending laws.
Collaborate with the CCO to ensure the company is compliant with licensing, advertising, and disclosure requirements.
Regulatory and Risk Management:
Monitor changes in federal and state mortgage regulations and assess their impact on the company’s policies, products, and procedures.
Conduct compliance risk assessments and participate in the development of risk mitigation strategies.
Lead efforts in preparing the company for regulatory exams and audits, and act as a key liaison with regulators.
Leadership and Team Collaboration:
Act as a strategic advisor to the CCO and other senior leadership, providing compliance guidance on new business initiatives, product launches, and partnerships.
Lead and mentor compliance staff and support cross-departmental training initiatives to ensure teams understand regulatory requirements and compliance obligations.
Take responsibility for leading the compliance department in the CCO’s absence and act as the primary point of contact for internal and external stakeholders on compliance matters.
Compliance Monitoring, Reporting, and Auditing:
Oversee the development and execution of compliance monitoring and testing programs, ensuring that internal policies align with regulatory requirements.
Assist in managing the review and approval process for marketing materials, customer communications, and operational changes to ensure compliance with regulations.
Track and report compliance metrics to senior leadership, identifying trends and recommending corrective actions.
Training and Development:
Develop and deliver training programs to educate employees on compliance policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
Stay up to date on industry best practices and foster a culture of continuous compliance education throughout the organization.
Quality Control and Compliance Audits:
Oversee the implementation and management of a comprehensive Quality Control (QC) program to ensure adherence to company policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
Work with internal teams to conduct pre-funding and post-closing quality control audits of loan files to identify any compliance issues or process deficiencies.
Review loan documentation to ensure compliance with TRID, RESPA, and TILA regulations, as well as state-specific guidelines, and resolve discrepancies or inaccuracies.
Ensure timely reporting and corrective actions in response to quality control findings, providing recommendations for process improvement.
Collaborate with operations, underwriting, and legal teams to address systemic issues and improve overall loan quality.
Establish a regular schedule for QC reviews and ensure proper documentation of all findings, remediation efforts, and outcomes for both internal and external audits.
Assist the CCO in managing third-party vendor audits to assess compliance with applicable laws and the company’s internal policies.

Utilizes discretion, judgment, and high-level analytical skills to interpret complex situations.
QualificationsEducation:
Bachelor’s degree in Law, Business, Finance, or a related field. Applicable work experience may be substituted for a degree.
Relevant certifications (e.g., Certified Regulatory Compliance Manager (CRCM), Certified Mortgage Compliance Professional (CMCP), or similar) are highly desirable.
Competencies:
In-depth knowledge of the U.S. mortgage regulatory landscape and compliance risk management principles.
Proven ability to lead compliance initiatives, develop policies and procedures, and execute compliance programs in a dynamic environment.
Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate across departments and influence decision-making.
Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, with attention to detail.
Proficient in compliance software and tools for monitoring, reporting, and managing regulatory compliance.
Experience:
7+ years of experience in mortgage compliance, with at least 2 years in a leadership role.
Strong understanding of federal and state mortgage regulations (RESPA, TILA, HMDA, ECOA, and Fair Lending laws) and non-bank mortgage operations.
Experience with the NMLS system and maintaining mortgage company licensing.
Previous experience in a startup or fast-growing company is a plus.
