We are extremely competitive externally, but not internally.This highly visible position located at our Victorville, CA Facility.What you'll do:The Operations Manager is a management level position in charge of overseeing the manufacturing and maintenance departments in a lean manufacturing environment. Includes production operations and maintenance support. The Operations Manager will plan, organize, and direct manufacturing and Maintenance activities for specific areas of the plant to meet established plant objectives. Provide the leadership of plant activities related to operations, maintenance, and manufacturing staff. Lead and manage direct reporting infrastructure.What you'll need:Responsible to always promote a positive safety culture and awareness within area of responsibility. Support and enforce all plant safety policies and procedures in a fair and consistent manner.Provide manufacturing process and team support to approximately 50 manufacturing employees, both salaried and hourly and 14 maintenance employees. Offer direction, expertise and effort in specific manufacturing areas. Maintain focus on meeting plant objectives in safety, quality, productivity, delivery and cost. Deliver target OEE and conversion cost for the plant. Put in place a PM procedure that eliminates any unplanned downtime. Prepares and controls department budget. Facilitate and drive employee engagement activities. Encourage and support employee suggestions and recommendations relating to continuous improvement of the work environment and processes and the elimination of waste. Review, develop, implement and revise (as needed) all processes and procedures within the manufacturing areas assigned to ensure continuous improvement activities. This includes implementation and maintenance of lean principles, in more than one area, with proven results as indicated by plant key performance indicators (KPI). Also includes use of Kaizen events, participation in audit programs and implementation of engineering changes. Lead and develop teams in each area. Enable team members to use tools such as effective meetings, consensus building, coaching, problem solving, audits and feedback to meet team and plant goals. Coordinate and monitor training and development programs to ensure operator effectiveness, skill enhancement and flexibility within the work group and the plant. Ensure certification processes are followed and maintained. Assume responsibility for all administrative facets of the area assigned, including personnel (discipline, attendance, etc.) and operations (operations reporting). Assist in the development of policies and procedures. Address issues of consistency of application of policies and procedures. Actively participate in supplier interaction activities, such as in-sourcing, outsourcing, quality and delivery issues, and supplier visits and audits. Participate in the panel interview and hiring process for hourly and professional positions. Develop new supervisors and leaders in plant hourly positions. Utilizing lean and six sigma methodologies, meeting daily production target goals, improving product quality by reducing defects, reducing labor hours, adhering to departmental budget, enforcing policies on a consistent basis, maintaining department moral, and enforcing safety regulations. Evaluates opportunities for major reductions in manufacturing cost through the introduction and use of current technologies such as TPS, SMED etc. Provides technical assistance and training to the line maintenance and operating departments as needed. Direct supervision of Operations Department, including Coordinators, and subsequent direct reports. Identify and coordinate specific training for the operations staff. Maintain a competent staff through selection, training, development, motivation and performance management.Creation and execution of annual goals/objectives and performance feedback sessions. Performs other related duties as required and assigned. Education:Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or related field. Master's Degree a plus.Experience: 5-10 years previous experience in leading activities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment preferred.Demonstrated skill with critical thinking, judgment and decision-making and deductive reasoning is required. Solid critical thinking skills and ability to create new, innovative ways to handle situations.Prior experience integrating maintenance and production activities to optimize production availability.In-depth technical knowledge of liquid filling, labeling and packaging processes along with chemical liquid batching processes.Understanding of lean manufacturing principles including Six Sigma, 5S, TPS, etc.Strong computer skills (MS Office Suite and SAP). Working knowledge of SAP Maintenance Module, a plus.Solid understanding of OE, OTIF, SMED improvement programs.Familiarity with quality management systems, GMP's and/or validation through advanced training.Strong knowledge of production operation, including equipment, materials, work flow, etc.Skills and Competencies:Excellent written and verbal communication skill is a major component of this position.Ability to maintain high level of confidentiality.Excellent interpersonal skills - ability to build positive relationships at all levels of the organizationExcellent communications skills - ability to communicate clearly and concisely in multiple mediaverbal, written, etc.Complex Problem Solving - Identifying complex problems and reviewing related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions.Excellent organizational/time management skills.Ability to work for long periods of time, under pressure, to produce results.Excellent organizational/time management skills with strong attention to detail.Ability to prioritize work assignments in a fast-paced, dynamic, production driven work environment.
