Will consider Transportation Planner

Under the direction of the Chief of the Research Program Development Branch (Senior Transportation Planner), the Associate Transportation Planner is responsible for supporting all research Program Steering Committees (PSCs) and Technical Advisory Panels (TAPs) to develop and manage an integrated program of research projects.

The Division of Research Innovation and System Information (DRISI) has developed processes to be used to select and program research projects and to more effectively implement research products. With these processes, Technical Advisory Panels or TAPs (comprised of technical experts from Caltrans Divisions, Districts, and external partners) will review and rank preliminary investigations, project plans, and proposals for new tasks; and identify implementation opportunities. Program Steering Committees or PSCs (comprised of Division Chiefs, District Directors, and external partners) will adopt multi-year integrated research programs; develop program-level research priorities; and support implementation of research products. The priorities of the PSCs are provided to the Research and Deployment Advisory Committee or RDAC (comprised of Division Chiefs and Deputy District Directors), who recommend Department-wide research priorities; funding allocation among research programs; and a Department-wide annual program of research projects; and oversee implementation of research products throughout the Department.

At present, there are thirteen PSCs and 30 TAPs. Each PSC and TAP is supported by a Division Coordinator, and by a DRISI Liaison (PSC-level) or Technical Representative (TAP-level). The Associate Transportation Planner, PSC/TAP Support will work closely with these individuals, with the Branch's Advisory Committee Liaison (who supports the RDAC), and with other Offices and Divisions as indicated below.

Working Conditions

Position located at 1727 30th Street, Sacramento, CA, Sacramento County

This position may be eligible for telework. The amount of telework is at the discretion of the Department and based on Caltrans's evolving telework policy. Caltrans supports telework, recognizing that in-person attendance may be required based on operational needs. Employees are expected to be able to report to their worksites with minimum notification if an urgent need arises. The selected candidate will be required to commute to the headquartered location as needed to meet operational needs. Business travel may be required, and reimbursement considers an employee's designated headquartered location, primary residence, and may be subject to CalHR regulations or applicable bargaining unit contract provisions. All commute expenses to the headquartered location will be the responsibility of the selected candidate.
