As the Contract Senior Packaging Designer, you will have the opportunity to collaborate with diverse teams and work on multiple brands to create packaging that is not only visually appealing and functional but also resonates with our target markets. Your role will involve bringing together design elements such as shape, color, graphics, and typography to craft packaging that truly reflects our brand and captivates consumers.
What you will do:
Support the Packaging Design Manager throughout the design process (including brainstorming, design, prototype development, and production)Develop innovative packaging design systems that are functional while also maintaining the aesthetics and brand integrity to meet packaging objectivesStrong knowledge of evaluating packaging designs for aesthetics, communication, product fit, structure stability, function, materials, quality, cost-effectiveness, manufacturability, transportation, industry best practices, and high standards of the brand; able to modify packaging designs as needed.Strong knowledge of packaging design and materials; able to communicate solutions for related challengesAble to recognize challenges related to structure, design, or cost and implement changes as needed without compromising the final product throughout the design processLead discussions with cross-functional teams throughout the development process to resolve any issues and ensure development milestones are metProvide mentorship to Packaging Designers and Associate Packaging Designers, nurturing their skills developmentDelegate project needs to junior staff as neededActively research and evaluate consumer and market trends and apply them to packaging design and materialsWork collaboratively to develop and implement strategies across product linesLead updates on current projects with cross-functional teamsPrep final files for production and work with the production team on specifics such as Pantone matching, proofing, etc.Communicate with the Asia packaging team throughout all stages of developmentStrong knowledge of production process and designs files accordinglyResponsible for managing timeline requirements and maintaining schedules to support production independentlyAble to multi-task on several priorities independentlyEnsure packaging designs accurately represent the company's brandWork collaboratively to develop and implement strategies across toy linesLead communication with outside vendors to execute projects as neededComplete final mock-up designs using appropriate computer softwarePrep files for trade show mock-upsPrepare submissions for licensor approvalFollow workflow and sign-off protocols to ensure final deliverables are error-freeReview print proofs and samples (FEPs) before going into productionPerform other duties as assignedSupervisor Responsibilities
Manages People: NoActs as mentor and trainer for JR-level staffWhat we are looking for:
Bachelor's degree in graphic design, art, industrial design, or other industry-relevant field preferred.5 - 8 years of experience in packaging design in the consumer packaged industry, ideally within the toys or kids environment.Experience working with style guides and the creation of original artworkStrong graphic design skills with an eye for innovation and creativityConceptual skillsEffective and efficient visual, verbal, and written communication skillsWorking knowledge of printing processes (4 colors, spot colors, mechanical preparation, paper stock, and file formats)Clear understanding of print expectations, including, bleeds, die lines, retouching, formats, resolution, etcExhibit interest and proactively gain knowledge of the current trends/innovations as well as an understanding of the competitive marketplace in the toy industryComputer proficiency in Microsoft Office & G-SuiteStrong proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (illustrator, photoshop, and InDesign)Able to work cross-functionally and reciprocally with multiple departmentsAble to work independently or collaborativelySelf-MotivatedProficient project management skillsKnowledge of materials and multiple manufacturing processesKnowledge of working with licensed brandsAble to multitask, organize, prioritize, and manage time efficientlyDemonstrates a strong design sense, including a well-developed sense of aestheticsCan easily adapt to shifting priorities, and can manage multiple priorities at one time, while also demonstrating vigilance in keeping projects moving forward and hitting deadlinesExcellent attention to detailLifelong LearnerEffective problem solver and critical thinker; proactive in resolving issuesAbility to deal effectively with diverse individuals at all organizational levels in Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate and deal effectively with diverse individuals at all organizational levels in a professional manner
