Laboratory Manager
Location:Cincinnati and Dayton Area, with primary base in Dayton, OHSupporting two satellite facilities in Middletown, OH as needed.Qualifications:
Bachelor of Science in Chemistry or related science/engineering fieldMinimum of 7-10 years of relevant experience required. Analytical experience required; treatability experience recommended.Previous management experience required, including managing laboratory staff, laboratory audits, and maintaining inventory and supplies.Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Laboratory Safety & Good Laboratory Practice (GLP)Knowledge of gas chromatography (GC using ECD/FID/MS), digestion methods for metals analysis, inductively coupled plasma (ICP-OES), organic carbon analysis using combustion methods, KF water titrations, microcoulometric determination of halogens, flash point testing, etc.Development of analytical methods and QA/QC for challenging matrices of water, wastewater, oily emulsions, etc.Treatability experience including physicochemical wastewater testing with pH adjustment, coagulants, precipitants, and flocculants.Excellent written and verbal communication skills.Demonstrated ability to document, interpret, reach conclusions, and provide recommendations regarding analytical results as they relate to the plant performance.Proficiency with Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.Familiarity and ideally high proficiency with Chromeleon, ChemStation, TOC TekLink, Agilent ICP Expert, etc.Position Requirements:
Direct staff and manage the laboratories at the Valicor Dayton & Middletown facilities.
Identify, adhere, and enforce all applicable Health and Safety rules and regulations within the facility and laboratory.Working knowledge and understanding of analytical methods, e.g., EPA, Standard Methods, ASTM, etc. with an ability to develop custom procedures, as needed, for challenging applications.Develop, implement, and train laboratory analysts on standard operating procedures (SOP) for analytical methods across all instruments noted above and other general wet chemistry methods.Establish and train laboratory analysts on QC/QA as needed for operational and process integrity.Prepare calibration standards and train/ensure necessary instrument calibration requirements.Establish and ensure routine instrument maintenance and manage third-party maintenance contracts.Establish and maintain required communications procedures between operational leaders and laboratory results for plant incoming, unit operation and effluent/monitoring points.Knowledge and compliance of proper lab waste management.Maintain inventory of consumables and laboratory gases.Conduct treatability studies for new and current streams using physicochemical processes. Experience with distillation/evaporation studies is a plus.Travel between the Middletown and Dayton facilities as needed, to provide support and coverage. Travel to other sites within Valicor's CWT network on few occasions to help support, troubleshoot or unify procedures.Perform managerial job functions such as time approval, time-off requests, annual reviews, etc.Benefits
