**Job Description****Position Title:** Manager, Financial Reporting & General Accounting**OPEN UNTIL FILLED****Department/Location:** Financial Services**Company:** Basin Electric Power Cooperative**Position Purpose:**This position is responsible for the financial reporting process and ensuring compliance with accounting standards and other regulatory requirements for Basin Electric Power Cooperative and its subsidiaries. This involves overseeing the timely preparation of financial statements including completing analysis of the financial information identifying variances and trends for senior management. This position coordinates with the external auditors during the annual financial audit and is responsible for the research of technical accounting issues.**Essential Functions:**+ Manage the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in compliance with US generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and other regulatory reporting requirements.+ Responsible to conduct the analysis of the financial information including variance analysis comparing actual results to forecasts and prior periods to report to senior management and the Board of Directors.+ Oversee the maintenance of the general ledger to ensure that transactions are recorded accurately and completely.+ Coordinate the month-end and year-end close processes to ensure timely preparation of the financial statements.+ Review journal entries to ensure accurate and complete financial information is reflected in the financial statements.+ Coordinate with the external auditors during the annual financial audit.+ Assist in maintaining an effective and efficient system of internal controls to ensure safeguarding of assets and accuracy, integrity, and reliability of accounting data; promote operational efficiency; and adhere to policies and procedures.+ Research technical accounting issues to ensure proper accounting and reporting for complex business transactions including the preparation of memos to document accounting conclusions.+ Review and evaluate new and proposed accounting standards and other regulatory requirements to determine their effect on Basin Electric and its subsidiaries accounting and business practices.+ Leads and mentors a team of accounting professionals to ensure the team maintains quality work standards and identifies opportunities for process improvements and efficiencies.**Qualifications** **:**+ Knowledge of GAAP, financial and accounting theory and procedures and experience researching complex accounting matters.+ Bachelors degree in accounting, finance, or a business-related field and+ Eight years of related professional accounting experience.+ Licensed as a certified public accountant (CPA designation).+ Strong analytical skills and experience with accounting for regulated entities.+ Proficient in personal computers including Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint; and a good working knowledge of relational database concepts.+ Prior experience acting as a lead, or previous supervisory experience.+ Excellent verbal and written communication skills.+ Resume required.+ The above statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed in this job. It also requires finger dexterity and hand coordination. This position requires the ability to communicate and must be able to clearly exchange accurate information.
