WSP USA is seeking a Project Controls Specialist to join our Transportation and Infrastructure team. The position will be based out of WSP’s Minneapolis, Minnesota office and support client programs both locally and nationally.

This position will be responsible for providing technical support and consultation for multiple project control functions including scheduling, estimating, cost control, document control and project management information systems. This position supports the technical aspect of project development and delivery in transportation, rail and transit and infrastructure functional areas. The Project Controls Specialist applies advanced project controls techniques to maintain scope, schedule and cost controls across large programs. As the local project controls practice grows, you will be asked to mentor, direct, and oversee the work of earlier career staff.

Your Impact

Support Project Manager and Project Controls Manager for all matters relating to planning/scheduling, cost/budget control, change management and scope/change control and estimating for assigned projects

Resolve issues and provide consistency between the scheduling, cost control, and scope/change control functions and deliverables

Work with project controls team, covering scheduling, cost estimating, document control, and change management

Prepare construction cost estimates utilizing contractor style estimates using labor, materials and equipment during design and for construction change orders

Review and assess monthly progress schedule updates on active projects and advise client on disposition of the progress schedule update

Develop and prepare project control reports with corrective action plans when required

Assist in the development of project controls dashboards and reporting methods

Monitor progress and calculate performance metrics, analyze and report variances to plan based on predetermined variance thresholds

Who You Are

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in engineering, architecture, construction management or related field

7+ years of relevant experience working on major infrastructure programs

Project Management, schedule or cost management certification through PMI or AACEi

Project Controls experience working as client's agent providing program management or construction management services

Knowledge of and experience in schedule preparation, schedule integration and schedule critical path

Knowledge of cost management systems and practices

Experience in scope/change management and claims mitigation and forensic analysis

Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct

Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies

Performs other duties as assigned

Preferred Qualifications

Registered Professional Engineer in Minnesota or ability to obtain within 3 months

Experience with Earned Value Management (EVM) development, implementation and analysis

Advanced Microsoft Office skills (Word, Excel, PowerBI, SharePoint)

Proficiency in Primavera P6 / Microsoft Project a plus
