Job Description SummaryThe Manufacturing Shop Operation Manager will be responsible for managing all aspects of day-to-day operations on the shop floor, including production scheduling, resource allocation, and ensuring safety and quality standards are met. This role involves leading a team of supervisors, operators, and maintenance personnel, driving operational excellence, and improving productivity through continuous improvement initiatives. The ideal candidate should possess strong leadership, problem-solving, and operational management skills with a solid understanding of manufacturing processes, including mechanical and electrical systems.
Job Description
Key ResponsibilitiesOversee all shop floor operations, ensuring production schedules are met, and products are manufactured to the highest quality standards.Lead and manage a team leaders, operators, and support staff, providing direction, support, and development opportunities.Ensure production efficiency by monitoring workflow, adjusting schedules, and optimizing resource allocation.Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance productivity, reduce waste, and improve overall operational efficiency.Ensure strict adherence to safety standards, conducting regular safety audits and addressing any potential hazards promptly.Collaborate with quality control teams to ensure all products meet required specifications and standards.Develop and implement operational strategies and best practices to optimize manufacturing processes and reduce costs.Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues related to machinery, equipment, or production processes in coordination with the maintenance team.Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) such as production output, downtime, and scrap rates to ensure optimal performance.Work closely with cross-functional teams, including engineering, procurement, and logistics, to ensure seamless operations.Manage inventory levels, ensuring materials and supplies are available to meet production demands while minimizing excess stock.Ensure compliance with company policies, Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) regulations, and other applicable standards.Prepare and present operational performance reports to senior management, identifying areas for improvement and recommending solutions.
QualificationsBachelor's degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, Operations Management, or a related field.7+ years of experience in manufacturing or production management, with at least 3 years in a leadership or managerial role.Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, including mechanical and electrical systems.Proven experience in managing shop floor operations, meeting production targets, and driving process improvements.Excellent leadership and team management skills, with the ability to motivate and develop employees.Strong problem-solving abilities, capable of resolving technical and operational issues quickly and effectively.Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles, Six Sigma, or other continuous improvement methodologies.Familiarity with safety regulations and best practices in a manufacturing environment.Proficiency in ERP systems and production planning software.Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to interact effectively at all levels of the organization.
