Exercises supervision for Health Services Staff, Health Education and Health Promotions, the Center for Access and Success. Functional supervision for activities of supervising physicians.SUMMARY PURPOSE OF POSITION:The Director of Health Services is responsible for the overall function and delivery of health care through the University's Student Health Services department. Develops policies and procedures, monitors the quality of services, supervises all Health Services staff, ensures compliance with immunization and insurance regulations and mandates and performs risk management duties. Coordinates the University health insurance plan and consultant physician coverage. Coordinates third-party payment billing processes and systems.Follow the University's best practices to build and/or support student academic success and retention and assist in meeting strategic objectives for persistence and timely graduation of all the student population.EXAMPLES OF PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Develops and implements policies for the Department of Health Services in accordance with the mission of the UniversityPlans, organizes and directs the operation of Health ServicesPrepares and supervises the budget and expenditures of Health ServicesSupervises outpatient services, including services for illness prevention and health promotionDevelops relationships with community resources (Emergency rooms, DPH, etc.) and specialty referrals in the local areaAssesses student levels of satisfaction with Health Services to determine goals and objectives to meet the needs of the student communityAdministers student health insurance program and acts as liaison with the carrierResponsible for Health Services personnel by hiring, supervising, and terminating professional, clerical, and student staffMaintains health information system to collect, analyze and report data to meet needs such as performance improvement, compliance, etc.Recommends short and long-term goals and objectives regarding the health needs of the UMass Dartmouth communitySupervises the Director of the Center for Access & Success to ensure that students receive accommodations deemed appropriate by federal law, and that faculty and staff members receive educational support about disability requirements and lawsSupervises and provides guidance, advocacy and support to the Director of Health Education/Promotion in the design and implement prevention, wellness and community health education programs for the campus and creation of innovative ways of providing effective services and outreach to studentsParticipates in space planning needs for the Health Services departmentMaintains membership in professional organizations. Participates in workshops, conferences, and seminars to maintain high level of clinical expertiseProvides direct service as needed (and certified to perform)Ensures institutional compliance with public policy mandates including immunizations and infectious disease surveillanceWorks with staff to provide for the unique health needs presented by a diverse student population including adult students, minority students, international students, LGBT students, and students with disabilitiesOversees risk-management issues in Student Health such as the review of patient complaints, communication with professional liability insurance carrier, review of clinical records and clinical record policies and the education of staff in risk managementEnsures proper credentialing of medical staffParticipates in Division of Student Affairs Deans and Directors meetings, leadership team meetings, critical incident review meetings, housing release, housing accommodation and meal accommodation committee meetingsRepresents Student Health Services and/or the Division of Student Affairs at new student orientation programs and admission open house programsOther related duties as assigned by supervisor
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:EDUCATION:
Master's degree in nursing and certification as a family or adult nurse practitionerEXPERIENCE:
Significant (over seven years) administrative experience in a health care agency. Demonstrated advanced practice experience.OTHER:

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:Experience in health promotion and outreach educationExperience with supervision of a clinical health care service within a Higher Ed setting or with college-aged clients
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:Demonstrated ability to relate to college studentsKnowledge of Higher Ed and campus student issuesAbility to integrate Health Services with other areas in the Division
