7-10 days per monthShift Hours:
12-hour shifts (8 a.m. to 8 p.m. or 8 p.m. to 8 a.m.)On-Call Requirements:
12-hour backup call before day shifts and after night shifts; infrequent call-backsPractice Setting:
Single provider coverage for both the emergency department and hospital patientsPatient Load:
Average 8 patients per shift in a 6-bed departmentRequirements:Board Certification:
Must be board eligible or board certified in Emergency Medicine or Family Medicine (due to rural practice scope)Certifications:
ACLS, ATLS, and PALS requiredAlaska License:
Must have an active Alaska state medical licenseExperience:
Ability to handle emergency medicine in a rural setting without outpatient clinic dutiesAdditional Information:No Obstetrics or Labor & Delivery Department:
However, physicians must be prepared for emergency obstetric cases that may arise in the ER.Support Staff:
Includes 2 RNs and 1 MA per shift; no supervision of residents or advanced practice providers.Facilities:
Small, critical access hospital without trauma or surgical backup beyond general surgery and orthopedic surgery.Perks:Housing:
Hospital provides apartments for physicians during scheduled shifts.Trauma Level:
