The Job
The People Relations Manager will be responsible for managing employee relations matters, conducting thorough investigations into employee concerns, and advising the business on disciplinary actions. This role will ensure compliance with California labor laws, provide guidance on policy interpretation, and help foster a positive work environment. The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, organized, and knowledgeable in California employment regulations. Multi-State knowledge is a plus
You Will
Conduct and manage comprehensive employee relations investigations, including interviewing parties, gathering facts, and documenting findings.
Partner closely with in-house Counsel regarding sensitive employee relations matters, when necessary.
Provide expert guidance to managers and leadership on employee relations issues, including policy interpretation, conflict resolution, and disciplinary recommendations.
Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local labor laws, including California-specific employment regulations such as CFRA, PAGA, and wage and hour laws.
Develop and update HR policies to ensure legal compliance and alignment with company values
Collaborate with HR teams and business leaders to proactively address employee concerns and mitigate risks.
Track and analyze employee relations cases to identify trends and recommend proactive solutions to minimize risks.
Maintain a high level of confidentiality and professionalism when handling sensitive information.
Provide training to managers on employee relations best practices, disciplinary procedures, and policy updates.
Assist in the development and implementation of employee engagement and retention strategies. Oversee People Relations Specialist; ensure goals are being met.
Actively support the achievement of SCAN's Vision and Goals.
Other duties as assigned.
Your Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience
5+ years of experience in employee relations or a similar HR role, preferably with experience in California labor law.
Strong understanding of California employment laws, including but not limited to CFRA, PAGA, FMLA, wage and hour regulations, and disciplinary procedures.
Demonstrated experience conducting thorough investigations and advising on disciplinary actions.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
High attention to detail, organization, and the ability to manage multiple cases simultaneously.
Strong problem-solving skills with a focus on employee advocacy and business needs.
Ability to build strong relationships and collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.

Mediation - Ability to mediate between management and employees
Problem Solving - Basic problem solving skills
Communication - Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
