In managing their portfolio, associate directors are responsible for both open enrollment (public) and contracted professional development training. The associate director collaborates with instructors and other subject matter experts to develop, operate, and continuously improve instructional programs. They supervise instructors and manage relationships with contracted firms that provide instructional and other services. The associate director engages with the professional communities associated with the programs in their portfolio to stay current with the field and develop a diverse instructor pool. They may serve as the project lead for new program development in their portfolio, identifying stakeholders, setting objectives, determining scope, ensuring resource availability, and evaluating outcomes. Associate director positions require strong critical thinking skills, with the ability to solve problems that cannot be identified and resolved in simple cause-effect terms. This position collaborates with others to create integrative solutions such as how technologies, processes, resources, and people all fit together to sustain effective educational programming. Performance results for this position relate to the ability to manage instructors, lead curricular development and improvement, collaborate with internal and external partners, and manage the financial efficiency and sustainability of a portfolio of non-credit educational programs. This position works under general supervision of the director of professional development programs, but has the discretion to make daily operational decisions, is able to recommend capital and process improvements for Professional Development Programs. This position is hybrid. It is mostly remote with some on-campus work required. It may require occasional evening and weekend work. Occasional travel to sites in the Twin Cities Metro area and infrequent travel to greater Minnesota and/or out-of-state may be required Work for a phenomenal team and College that's student and staff-centered! DUTIES: Program Portfolio Management 30% Plan, develop, implement, and evaluate a portfolio of non-credit educational programs that meet skill-up needs for professionals in a variety of fields Keep current with developments in the professional fields related to the assigned portfolio and make recommendations for new program development, program improvement investments, and program closures Lead the development of non-credit instructional programs, including collaborating with subject matter experts, instructional designers and program staff to develop curricula Lead medium-sized projects to improve program curricula, delivery, or market position, including stakeholder identification, setting of objectives, determining scope, ensuring resource availability, managing project budget, and evaluation of outcomes Oversee and manage relationships with agencies, organizations, and other external stakeholders related to the assigned portfolio of programs Recruit industry experts to program advisory groups and serve as the lead to these groups to guide the process of developing and redesigning courses and programs Prepare work plans and annual budgets for programs in the portfolio for college-wide budget projections Monitor finances in the program portfolio and approve invoices for ayments incurred within the assigned program portfolio Develop and Manage Instructional Staff and Contractors 25% Develop a diverse pool of faculty for teaching through recruitment, outreach, and collaboration Provide guidance to instructors based on sound adult education and instructional design principles Oversee and manage relationships with contracted firms that provide instructional services or other services that support programming Monitor instructor performance and coach instructors as needed. Hire, train, suspend, promote, discharge, assign work, reward, discipline, and direct the work of instructors Program Planning and Implementation 25% Oversee content and pedagogy used in curriculum Oversee course scheduling and instructor assignments for courses in assigned programs Evaluate program design, delivery, and outcomes. Coordinate efforts to achieve and maintain good standing with professional bodies related to programs Modify practices and procedures to improve efficiency and quality; developing better ways to effectively achieve end results by, for example, scheduling work steps, arranging/re-arranging the way work is generally performed, and adding or deleting elements of processes as necessary Support students and work with instructors and staff to resolve issues as they arise Prioritize and lead projects for educational programs to successful execution, including managing project budgets Collaborate with members of the Operations Team, Marketing Team, the Academic Technology and Design Team, the Registration Team, and others to successfully design, launch, and operate courses and programs Workforce Development Programming 20% Collaborate with the enrollment management team to develop and maintain client organizations relationships Collaborate with enrollment management, registrations services, and operations to assess client needs, develop proposals and write contracts to meet those needs Serve as the PDP point of contact for assigned workforce development clients Oversee delivery of dedicated courses for client organizations Evaluate the effectiveness of educational programs in meeting client needs Participate in local professional organizations, meetings, and events to promote the programs and build relationships with potential client organizations and learners Qualifications REQUIRED: Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution and 6 or more years of related professional post degree experience or Master's degree with 4 or more years of experience to include supervisory experience.
