Job Summary:
The Paralegal will work directly under the General Counsel and provide essential legal support in a dynamic and fast-paced environment within the gas station and convenience store industry. This role involves a broad range of responsibilities, including legal research, contract management, compliance monitoring, and assisting with various legal matters related to our operations across California and Oregon.
Key Responsibilities:
Legal Research & Analysis: Conduct thorough legal research on state and federal laws, regulations, and case law relevant to the gas station and convenience store industry in California and Oregon. Summarize findings and provide recommendations to the General Counsel.Contract Management: Assist in drafting, reviewing, and managing contracts, including vendor agreements, lease agreements, and other business-related contracts. Ensure contracts comply with legal requirements and company policies.Compliance Monitoring: Support the General Counsel in monitoring and ensuring company compliance with all applicable laws and regulations, including environmental, labor, and safety standards. Assist in the development and implementation of internal compliance programs.Document Preparation: Prepare and file legal documents, including corporate filings, regulatory reports, and other necessary documentation. Manage legal correspondence and maintain organized and up-to-date files.Litigation Support: Assist in the preparation of documents for litigation, including discovery, pleadings, and other court filings. Coordinate with outside counsel as needed and track litigation timelines.Regulatory Liaison: Act as a liaison with regulatory agencies, assist with permit applications, and ensure timely submissions of required reports and documentation.Due Diligence: Conduct due diligence for mergers, acquisitions, or new business ventures, including reviewing property leases, licenses, and other legal obligations.Administrative Support: Provide general administrative support to the General Counsel, including scheduling meetings, maintaining calendars, and organizing legal team activities.Qualifications:
Education:
Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Paralegal Studies, Legal Studies, or a related field.Paralegal certification from an ABA-approved program is preferred.Experience:
Minimum of 3-5 years of experience as a Paralegal, preferably in an in-house legal department or law firm.Experience in the gas station, convenience store, or retail industry is a plus.Skills:
Strong understanding of California and Oregon state and federal laws.Excellent research, analytical, and problem-solving skills.Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and legal research databases (e.g., Westlaw, LexisNexis).Exceptional organizational skills with attention to detail.Strong written and verbal communication skills.Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.Other Requirements:
Familiarity with environmental regulations and compliance in the context of the gas station industry.Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
