Role Overview: The Business Development Manager (BDM) is responsible for bringing on and maintaining a book of business, while growing regional import/export sales in Air/Ocean freight (international and domestic). The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in freight forwarding sales and the ability to meet and exceed revenue targets.
Key Responsibilities:
Business Development:
Develop new business opportunities through research, prospecting, and customer visits.
Build and manage relationships within the defined geographical area.
Successfully close new business and onboard new clients.
Increase market share and achieve assigned financial targets for volume, revenue, and profit.
Client Management:
Maintain regular contact with clients to ensure satisfaction and address needs.
Collaborate with the Pricing team to develop competitive client pricing strategies and provide rate quotes.
Monitor and maintain clients' credit lines in accordance with company guidelines.
Regularly update the company CRM system and provide monthly budget reviews for management.
Supplier & Contract Management:
Manage allocated customers using established tools to exceed performance targets.
Follow up with new clients after their initial shipments.
Ensure timely and accurate communication of contract details to all relevant parties.
Adhere to client service level agreements and ensure high service standards.
Qualifications:
Minimum of 2-3 years of sales experience within the freight forwarding industry.
Confidence in bringing over existing clients (no non-compete agreements).
Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate with clients and internal teams.
Highly organized with excellent time management skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and a strong understanding of CRM systems.
Bringing a book of business is advantageous.
