The Data Center Engineer plays a crucial role in server engineering, participating in the planning of maintenance and the development of strategies for various platforms. This role requires a good understanding of Windows Server, Red Hat Enterprise Linux, VMware, Active Directory, Cisco UCS, and intermediate IT troubleshooting.

•Assist in planning and implementing hardware and software upgrades.

•Help monitor and maintain server clusters.

•Work within specialized client/server environments.

•Assist in maintaining and configuring DNS and Active Directory services.

•Help manage multiple data storage systems.

•Automate routine tasks using Python or PowerShell under supervision.

•Document server environments for change control and technical repository.

•Support file and block data storage and backup systems

Qualifications:Minimum EducationBachelor's Degree Computer Science (Required) Or Relevant experience in data center engineering beyond the minimum required work experience may substitute for the educational requirement on a 1-1 ratio i.e. one year of relevant work experience equals one year of required education.Minimum Work Experience

5 years Hands-on data center and systems engineering experience (Required)Required Skills/Knowledge

One or more of: MSCE, VMware VCP, AIX, Citrix, EMC (Preferred)Functional Accountabilities

Systems Management

Provide administration for multiple servers and hybrid cloud; ensure server availability.Perform network operating system and application software installation/upgrades.Configure server hardware and network communications; assist in the development of configuration standards.Monitor system performance and storage usage; document data backup procedures and provide systems performance and management statistics and reports.Management of system trend analysis and configuration.System Integration/ Implementation

Forecast and maintain server and storage capacities.Integrate hardware and operating systems software into existing network technologies.Assist with integration of various network operating system environments (Novell, AIX, OS400, VMS, NetWare, Windows NT).Implement client/server solutions to support various application's suites; support the implementation of applications into production.Participate in Installs, moves, adds and changes (IMAC).Observe and meet deadlines.System/Project Planning

Implement approved hardware and operating systems designs and configurations.Participate in Disaster Recovery design and planning.Assist in the creation of test plans and scripts for back-up and recovery solutions.Assist in the development of disk storage solutions.Performs hardware and network diagnosis.Capable of devising ways to accomplish a difficult purpose; ability to recognize a problem and construct an effective solution compatible with overall company operations.Technical Proficiency

Demonstrate understanding of standard networking protocols and NDS technology.Maintain professional expertise through continuing education at conferences, seminars, user group meetings & review of current literature.Pursue industry standard technical certifications.Provide technical support and consultation to IS staff.IT Best Practices

Actively participate in the Department's ITIL processesParticipate in the Incident Management process; proactively work to resolve Incidents and meet service requests; document relevant data on requests and resolutions in agreed upon timeframe.Escalate incidents according to procedures; convert incidents to change requests as needed.Participate in the Change Control process; complete change tasks and update them with relevant information and status changes.
