The purpose of this position is to provide mobile community outreach in response to the opioid epidemic and the OAA Regional Partnership Grant.
The position reports to the Director of Community Corrections.
Essential Functions
Duties and Responsibilities
The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this job/class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the job/class as necessary.
This position provides direct outreach and education to people who use drugs, their families and friends, and community members. The Outreach Coordinator will provide community-based outreach including providing harm reduction education and materials, conducting community presentations, working with internal and external stakeholders, and building connections with community resources (recovery, treatment, healthcare, and support groups). The position will participate and facilitate community meetings, re-entry councils, and coordinate with inter-governmental agencies on overdose and "hotspot" response.

The preferred candidate will have experience providing outreach services in the community, knowledge of harm reduction principles, substance use treatment and resources, and experience with social media. The candidate should be comfortable interacting with community members, working with and presenting to various stakeholders, and have experience building community partnerships. This position requires the ability to work both independently and with a team.

This is a grant funded temporary position. Duration is one year with up to four one-year renewals are desired but not required. Additional skills such as training development, social media management, and program development are desired but not required.

Speaks informally to groups of colleagues, staff in other organizational agencies, general public, may provide training, composes reports and written materials, using proper language, punctuation, grammar and style.
Judgment Requirements:
Judgment requirements refer to the frequency and complexity of judgments and decisions given the stability of the work environments, the nature and type of guidance, and the breadth of impact of the judgments and decisions.
Decision-making is essential to the position in the general public, works in a dynamic environment with a diverse population.
Physical Demands:
Physical demands refer to the requirements for physical exertion and coordination of limb and body movement.
Performs sedentary work that involves walking or standing some of the time and exerting and/or lifting up to 10 pounds. Requires the ability to drive motor vehicle and some keyboard operations.
Equipment Usage:
Equipment usage involves responsibility for materials, machines, tools, equipment, work aids, and products.
Motor vehicle, laptop, Narcan or other supplies to be determined.
Complexity of Work:
Complexity addresses the analysis, initiative, ingenuity, concentration and creativity, required by the job and the presence of any unusual pressures present in the job.
Involves people and work-related problem-solving skills; requires accurate results, and exposure to unusual events.
Impact of Errors:
Impact of errors refers to consequences such as damage to equipment and property, loss of data, exposure of the organization to legal liability, and injury or death for individuals.
The impact of errors is moderately serios - affects work unit and may affect other units or citizens.
Unavoidable Hazards:
Assists individuals with substance use disorders an/or mental health issues or co-occurring disorders in the community, may have exposure to other extreme hazards not identified.
Safety of Others:
Safety of others refers to the level of responsibility for the safety of others, either inherent in the job or to ensure the safety of the general public.
(Does not include safety of subordinates ).

Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in criminal justice, public health, public administration, social work, or related field; three years of experience in outreach, harm reduction, public health; or equivalent combination of training and experience.
