Position Overview:
The Purchasing Specialist will manage the procurement process for materials and supplies required for company operations, working closely with the engineering and production teams. This role will be responsible for ensuring that all purchasing activities support project timelines, maintain optimal inventory levels, and provide the best value to the company.
Major Responsibilities/Accountabilities:
The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:
NetSuite Assembly and BOM Management:
Collaborate with the engineering team to create and maintain the Bill of Materials (BOM) using information supplied by engineering for specific projects. Ensure that all necessary components are accurately reflected in the BOM for proper procurement.
Inventory Check:
Conduct regular inventory checks in coordination with Work Orders (WO) to determine purchasing needs. Ensure that inventory levels align with production schedules and project requirements.
Request for Quotations (RFQs):
Prepare and send out RFQs to various vendors to secure the best value for required materials. Evaluate quotations based on pricing, quality, and lead time to make informed purchasing decisions.
Requisition Creation:
Create purchase requisitions to source materials and components from various vendors. Ensure that all purchasing requisitions are aligned with project goals and budgets.
Purchase Order (PO) Management:
Issue Purchase Orders to the appropriate vendors based on approved requisitions. Follow up with vendors to track order progress and ensure timely delivery of materials in line with project deadlines.
Vendor Relations:
Develop and maintain strong relationships with key vendors. Continuously seek opportunities for cost savings, improved quality, and delivery performance.
Project Coordination:
Work closely with project managers, engineers, and the production team to ensure all materials are available when needed to avoid production delays. Adjust purchasing strategies based on project needs.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:
Proven experience in purchasing or procurement, preferably in a manufacturing or engineering environment.
Strong understanding of BOM creation and NS Assembly processes.
Excellent communication and negotiation skills to interact with vendors and internal teams.
Develops, tracks, and performs analytics on key functional performance metrics. Identifies and communicates issues and opportunities for improvement.
Strong analytical skills with attention to detail for evaluating vendor quotes and managing inventory.
Proficiency in procurement software and ERP systems. Use of NetSuite is a plus.
Ability to manage multiple projects and meet tight deadlines.
Strong Excel skills or other spreadsheet software preferred.
Preferred Skills:
4+ years’ experience in a procurement role with specific experience in supply planning, materials management and purchasing.
Knowledge of industry-specific materials and components is an advantage.
Experience with metal fabrication or manufacturing environments is a plus.
Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to adapt to changing project requirements.
Physical/Mental Demands and Work Environment
Consistent lifting (up to 50 lbs.)
Ability to work through and around inclement weather conditions.
Prolonged periods of sitting at a computer, standing and/or walking.
Loading and unloading packages, lifting, bending, or standing for long periods of time, operation of machinery.
Office environment with occasional visits to the production floor, or movement between buildings.
