Systems Administrator

Position Summary:As Systems Administrator, you will be responsible for the availability and integrity of physical and virtual infrastructure for Machinery Control Systems (MCS) Code 50 at the Naval Surface Warfare Center Philadelphia Division (NSWCPD). Experience with virtualized environments and technologies is critical to success in this role.

Clearance Requirements:

Must be able to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret security clearance.Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

Maintains fully patched and updated operating systems imageBecome subject matter expert to support the VDI and any MCS development activitiesProvide engineering support for virtual and physical enterprise servers and operates/sustains the VDISupports physical/virtual server and storage systems, including monitoring system performance, configuration, maintenance, and repair.Maintains records of system downtime and equipment inventory.Applies revisions to host system firmware and software.Works with vendors to assist support activities.Develops new system and application implementation plans, custom scripts, and testing procedures to ensure operational reliability.Performs troubleshooting as required. Leads problem-solving efforts often involving outside vendors and other support personnel.Installs, modifies, and maintains systems and utility software on server computer systems.Provides server support related to other software.Ensures high availability and acceptable levels of performance of critical computer resources.Develops procedures, programs, and documentation for backup and restoration of host operating systems and host-based applications.Develops and coordinates project directions and schedules to maximize benefits and minimize impacts on programmatic activity. Provides input in planning and implementation of projects for computer operations and systems administration.Develops tools and procedures for program team members.Develops test procedures to validate upgrade is completed and existing functionality is still operationalSupport and Assist with peer review to support the software and hardware developmentDevelop and implement security policies, procedures, and best practices to protect the organization's digital assets.Conduct regular security audits and vulnerability assessments to identify and mitigate potential risks.Manage firewalls, intrusion detection systems, and other security tools to safeguard network integrity.Monitor network traffic for suspicious activities and respond to security incidents.Educate and train employees on new software/hardware and security best practices and awareness.Required Education, Skills, and Experience:

Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field (or equivalent work experience)Proven experience as a Systems Administrator, with a focus on cyber security.Certification in cyber security (e.g., CompTIA Security+, CISSP)Strong knowledge of network and system administration, including Windows and Linux environments.Experience managing server virtualization technologies like VMWare vSphere or VMware HorizonExperience with deploying and troubleshooting virtual desktop environment including vDI virtual desktop interfaceExperience with network virtualization and security platforms such as nSXExperience with virtual cloud network design and sustainmentExperience with developing system diagrams and design documentsAbility to develop test plans/proceduresAbility to test whether the new patch or update affected the overall systemAble to build and troubleshoot computer and serversAble to install software and troubleshootLAN Routing and Switching design, configuration and troubleshooting (VLANs, IP Subnetting, 802.1Q trunks) experienceA solid understanding of LAN/WAN networking and Brocade technologyGroup Policy design and configuration experienceActive Directory/LDAP user and group administration experienceFamiliarity with firewalls, intrusion detection/prevention systems, and anti-virus software.Experience with Atlassian product like Jira and Confluence preferredExcellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.Effective communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.Physical Demands and Expectations:
