Position Summary:

The Mechanical Designer will create new models in Solidworks (3D) while using AutoCAD (2D) to work in older drawings and assemblies.

Responsibilities include, generating and managing concepts, mechanical sketches, and drawings required effectively, fabricate, install and/or commission various types of air pollution abatement equipment.

Designs include, general arrangement, complex assembly, layout detail, and fabrication drawings.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

Utilize a computer aided design (CAD) system to create drawings (2D and 3D)

Interpret schematics to develop complete system designs

Travel to customer sites and participate in field measurements

Maintain project schedules

Effectively communicate and interact with engineering and estimating departments, contractors, suppliers and customers (limited customer contact)

Control and document the distribution and archiving of drawings and documents

Understand, diagnose, and solve real or potential design problems

Attend and contribute to design review meetings

Interpret mechanical drawings

Exercises critical judgment in creating designs that perform functionally and meet project specifications while considering key aspects of safety, cost, code compliance, ability to fabricate, ergonomics and aesthetics.

Find and implement catalog components into equipment designs.

Use company-developed sizing calculations and perform simple analysis calculations to verify design functionality.

Create Bills-of-Material from detailed drawings and release the engineering package to manufacturing.

Support manufacturing by answering any questions and regularly inspecting the fabrication until shipment

Qualifications:

Associate Degree in Engineering, Mechanical Design, or related field preferred

Experience designing sheet metal assemblies and air handling systems preferred

Familiar with mechanical layout, detail drawings, and basic piping preferred

Prior experience with PLM software (SAP, Oracle, etc...) preferred but not required

Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings

Ability to perform basic engineering calculations

Strong skills in math and geometry

Proficient in the use of Solidworks (2D and 3D) and AutoCAD (2D and 3D)

Proficient with Microsoft Office: Word, Excel and Outlook

Ability to understand and maintain project schedules

Good time management skills

Good organizational skills

Good verbal communication skills

Good technical writing skills

Good communication skills with co-workers, suppliers, and customers

Able to work well independently and in a collaborative team environment

Ability to technically define problems and propose solutions

Willing and able to work overtime, weekends and holidays when necessary

Expected Hours of Work:

This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work vary based on need. May be required to work holidays or weekends. Overtime may be required. The global Lithium Ion Batteries (LIB) business unit represents a growth area within the Clean Technology Systems (CTS) division. The product portfolio includes coating systems with dryers, solvent recovery and calenders for battery electrodes. These systems are a key factor in battery manufacturing productivity and the performance of lithium-ion batteries in applications, such as electric vehicles and stationary energy storage. With these products, the LIB business unit supports the sustainable transformation of the global automotive industry and exploits the great growth potential in electromobility.
