Data Engineer/ETL Developer (Professional Sports Required)

Department:

Hockey Operations

Job Reports To: Assistant General Manager and Director of Hockey Analytics

Status: Exempt

Position Overview:

The role will support the overall strategy of the Hockey Operations Department as we strive to create and upgrade our innovative tools and solutions to support all facets of hockey operations. This role will focus on automating ETL processes, maintaining databases, monitoring data quality, and troubleshooting data pipeline issues. The ideal candidate will have experience creating data pipelines and storing data through SQL databases in order to transform raw data into analytical-ready datasets. We are seeking an individual who wants to be a part of an integrated team.

Job Responsibilities:

Data Pipeline Development

Create, build, and maintain scalable data pipelines using ETL tools and practices.

Improve data ingestion processes.

Assist in maintaining and updating all software integrations.

Database Management

Ensure data is stored for high performance and responsiveness.

Improve database schema design and optimize data infrastructure.

Support application database design.

Data Quality and Compliance

Monitor data quality, ensuring consistency, accuracy, and reliability.

Document data workflows, processes, and technical specifications.

Collaboration and Communication

Qualifications and Education Requirements:

Bachelor's degree in computer science, Mathematics, or related field preferred, or demonstrated experience.

Expertise with modern database technologies and SQL.

Experience in building and supporting ETL processes.

Building API integrations.

Version control.

Skills & Knowledge

Database design and management.

Strong coding in Python, R, or similar language.

Data Quality Assurance and Control.

Strong analytical and quantitative skills.

Problem-solving and troubleshooting.

Desire to learn and constantly improve.

Ability to learn new technologies and techniques, as necessary.

A desire to be a part of a sports and entertainment company.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience maintaining real-time and/or streaming databases and working with Rest APIs.

1+ year(s) experience in a professional hockey and hockey data OR working with similar sports specific data

Essential Physical Functions:

Required to work long hours on hockey game days.

Must be able to identify problems, their sources, and their potential solutions while continuing to successfully conduct day-to-day operations without interruption.

Strong organization and prioritization skills.

Excellent interpersonal and communications skills, with strong critical thinking and attention to detail.

Ability to sit for extended periods of time.

Ability to stand in an upright position for continuous period of time.

Walking, bending, carrying of light items such office supplies will be required.

Equipment Used:

General Office Equipment (i.e. PC, copier, facsimile machine, etc.).
