a Treasurer .Become part of our organization’s leadership team and provide invaluable input to our Board and Executive Director. While the time commitment for this volunteer position is small, the impact is mighty. You will be part of a small, passion-driven, collaborative, and generous team that is setting the stage for years of restoring health and hope for survivors of injury and trauma.The
role of the Board Treasurer
is to provide
general oversight
of the organization's finances,
serve as a resource
to the Executive Director, and
provide informed guidance
to the Board. Practically speaking, this means:Reviewing the organization's financial statements (balance sheet, statement of activities, and annual IRS form 990) on a quarterly basis in conjunction with the Executive Director and bookkeeper prior to each board meeting where they are presented.Acting as a secondary signatory for the organization's bank and brokerage accounts, and as an additional layer of approval for expenditures over a certain threshold.Reviewing and providing input on the annual budget as prepared by the Executive Director and the bookkeeper.A good candidate will be familiar with, comfortable, and maybe even enjoy reviewing and interpreting financial statements and spreadsheets.For our small organization, the Board Treasurer serves as the third leg of a stool of financial accountability (the other two legs being the ED and bookkeeper), providing another check to ensure that financial statements are prepared correctly, that the organization is in compliance with state and federal law, and that the Board-approved budget is being adhered to.The office of Treasurer is an oversight role,
not a managerial role.
You will not be involved in the day-to-day financial management or operations of the organization. You will work directly with the Executive Director, providing key oversight and thought partnership on a quarterly and annual basis to ensure the healthy administration of the organizational budget. You represent the Board’s fiduciary duty to protect and preserve the organization’s mission and will be asked to help educate the Board as to the financial health and future of the organization.Reports to: Board of DirectorsWorks with: Executive Director and bookkeeperEstimated Time Commitment: 4-8 hours per quarterNote: Officer vs. Director RolesA Treasurer is an Officer not a member of the Board of Directors. The office of Treasurer is an elected position. A Board member may serve as Treasurer but the Treasurer doesn’t not have to be a director. However, if you decide that you’d like to be nominated for a directorship, you must volunteer for at least 6 months before you’d be eligible to join the Board of directors.Required:Finance, accounting, or bookkeeping backgroundFamiliarity with inclusionary business practicesDesired:Nonprofit or foundation leadership experienceNonprofit Treasurer experienceExperience fundraisingPassionate about health, community wellness, and supporting individuals facing disproportionate rates of traumatic stressIdentifies as part of or has experience working with one the communities we serve - BIPOC, First Responders and Healthcare Frontline Workers, LGBTQIA+ individuals, or Veterans and Active Duty Military.
