ResponsibilitiesOversee content development and dissemination for ASCO Daily News print and digital offerings, including the publication website, podcast and video programs, and email newslettersServe as staff liaison for the ASCO Daily News Editorial Board and co-liaison for the Meeting and Member Publications Editorial BoardDirect the selection, development, and review of oncology news coverage, which includes coverage for ASCO meetings and journals and physician-written commentary and analysis. Uphold strict editorial standards to ensure accurate and independent news coverageCollaborate with internal staff to ensure efficient, effective workflows and processes, including the creation of production schedules; physician-level content review; copy editing by freelance editors and vendors; and timely print and online publicationProvide supervision, mentoring, feedback, coaching and task delegation to departmental staff to maximize their effectiveness and support each staff member's professional developmentManage the hiring of freelance writers and editors for the ASCO Daily News and collaborate on the management of workflow/production vendorsOversee live meeting coverage, including but not limited to 6 weekends a yearWork with department leadership to plan and execute strategy around content development and dissemination and direct the implementation of new ASCO Daily News products and multimedia optionsInitiate and execute process improvement, obstacle anticipation and avoidance, and innovative advancements and improvements to productsRequired Education and ExperienceBachelor's degree in Journalism, Digital Media Studies, Communications, English, Literature or related field or equivalent years of experience8 years of news management experience in a clinical/medical setting4 years of management experienceExperience working in a collaborative team environment with physicians, executives, contractors, and other staffProficiency with Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook) and an openness to embracing and learning new technologyAbility to work occasional weekends as needed to support ASCO meetings and symposiaPreferred Education and ExperienceExperience in the medical field or knowledge of the oncology field is highly desiredMaster's degree in Journalism, Digital Media Studies, Communications, English, Literature or related fieldExperience working with project management software (e.g., Airtable, Smartsheet)CompetenciesSuperior communication skills, including writing and editorial skills such as editing and proofreadingExcellent organizational, time management, and project management/planning skills with attention to detailAbility to effectively manage multiple complex stakeholders and projects within budget and timelinesExperience leading critical functional or cross-functional initiativesStrong interpersonal skills with the ability to establish and maintain professional relationships with external experts, editors, and all professional levelsStrong analytical skills with the ability to interpret and present scientific and clinical data and understand statistical methods and analysis plansStrong leadership and managerial/supervisory skills with the ability to delegate, motivate and develop staffAbility to determine goals and priorities and to assess the actions, time and resources needed to achieve those goalsADA/Physical RequirementsFast-paced office environment with extended periods seated or standing at a desk.High use of computer and other office technology equipment.TravelUp to 12-15 days a yearGenerous Benefits Package:Hybrid Work EnvironmentOpen Leave PolicyPaid Family Leave13 Paid Holidays per Calendar YearStaff Appreciation Days401(k): 7.5% Employer ContributionMedical/Dental/VisionEmployee Assistance ProgramFertility and Family FormingHealthcare ConciergeFlexible Spending Account(s)Healthcare Savings AccountDisability and Life InsuranceThe American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) is an Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) employer.
