Your Opportunity

Stantec’s Mountain Region is looking for a mid-level NEPA practitioner and project manager with 7-10 years of experience preparing environmental documents pursuant to the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA). The primary duty of this role is to manage multiple planning and permitting projects for a wide range of regulators and proponents across diverse geographic locations. Our NEPA work is primarily focused on mining, geothermal, and utility development on public lands in the Great Basin region. Successful candidates will be comfortable handling project development, management, and technical responsibility of environmental compliance and natural resources projects.

As a NEPA practitioner and project manager, you will have a strong understanding of NEPA analysis, including impact determinations and cumulative assessments, and be willing to take on projects spanning a variety of environmental regulatory processes. Primary duties will focus on project contracting, budgeting, and scheduling and will include collaborating with management staff and other team members on research, technical report writing, and QA/QC review of analytical sections of environmental documents.

Your Key Responsibilities

Guide the NEPA planning process and oversee all aspects of a project, including client contact, budget control and invoicing, schedule, personnel allocation/planning, public interest facilitation, technical approach, and subcontractor involvement.

Coordinate with clients, regulatory/resource agencies, local governments.

Manage technical studies and ecological and human resource teams with assessments and reporting.

Lead the preparation of NEPA documentation including environmental impact statements (EISs), Environmental Assessments (EAs), and similar documents.

Provide quality assurance and quality control for final products to ensure technical accurateness and regulatory compliance.

Assist in the preparation of proposals and other marketing endeavors.

Qualifications

Your Capabilities and Credentials

Thorough understanding of technical environmental impact analysis methods and sound knowledge of NEPA requirements and related environmental regulations.

Team oriented with strong capability to motivate others.

Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.

Demonstrated experience with planning projects and ability to motivate self and others to overcome obstacles and achieve goals.

Demonstrated ability to work well under pressure and to prioritize and balance sometimes heavy workloads to achieve goals while keeping up with a highly mobile and changing environment.

Must demonstrate ability in collaborative problem solving with stakeholders, client, and teammates.

Must be a highly motivated self-started.

Must be proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.

Experience and established relationships in the Mining, Geothermal, and/or Transmission Sectors preferred.

Ability to work independently and successfully lead development of NEPA documents through direct agency coordination and schedule management.

Experience with the BLM and/or USFS NEPA processes and requirements preferred.

A working knowledge of and experience with mapping software (ArcGIS) is a plus.

Excellent ability to facilitate decision making and issue resolution processes is a plus.

Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, environmental policy, environmental planning, or related field, and at least 10 years of related experience. Master’s degree in planning or related environmental discipline is a bonus but not required.

Preference will be given to candidates with experience in environmental consulting and/or working for a federal/state environmental agency on environmental permitting projects relating to the NEPA. Experience with additional regulatory requirements a plus.

Demonstrated experience and or familiarity with various environmental regulatory policy.

Experience with task leadership.

Good communication skills and ability to work with others.
