Position Overview

International’s Bus Components Engineering Team has an exciting opportunity for a Technical Specialist to join our team at our WHQ in Lisle, IL. The Bus Components team within R&D is responsible for all design work on the bus body, including body structure, body closures, interior trim, and body components. Group responsibilities consist of requirement setting, design activities, validation support, pilot build preparation and troubleshooting, and production plant support.The Technical Specialist will provide technical expertise in the group and guide/mentor less experienced team members. They will be the subject matter expert on the bus product (school & commercial) as well as bus industry best practices, ensuring all requirements and regulations are met with quality.

Responsibilities

Operates with little to no supervision in a complex environment. Acts independently to determine methods and procedures on new or special assignments. May supervise the activities of others and lead project teams to achieve milestones and objectives.

Solves significant, unique, and complex problems that have a broad impact on the business. May also require development of new solutions for complex projects.

Contributes to the development of functional strategy. Anticipates internal and/or external business challenges and/or regulatory issues; recommends process, product, or service improvements.

Exercises independent judgment in methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria for obtaining results. Creates formal networks involving coordination among groups.

Identify, troubleshoot, contain, and permanently correct engineering design issues.

Identify and document bus body system knowledge to drive continuous organizational learning.

Coordinate testing of designs for durability and compliance to Federal, State, and local requirements.

Minimum Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology or Computer Science

At least 12 years of experience in product design/development or new technologies and/or computer science experience

At least 2 years of experience leading new technologies or specialized technologies

OR

Master’s degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology or Computer Science

At least 8 years of experience in product design/development or new technologies and/or computer science experience

At least 2 years of experience leading new technologies or specialized technologies

OR

PhD in Engineering, Engineering Technology or Computer Science

At least 5 years of experience in product design/development or new technologies or specialized technologies and/or computer science experience

At least 2 years of experience leading new technologies or specialized technologies

Additional Requirements

Qualified candidates, excluding current International Motors employees, must be legally authorized on an unrestricted basis (US Citizen, Legal Permanent Resident, Refugee or Asylee) to be employed in the United States. International Motors does not anticipate providing employment related work sponsorship for this position (e.g., H-1B status)

Desired Skills

Experience in work with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (FMVSS.). School Bus Regulations experience a Plus

Experience in requirement writing, DFMEA, DVP&R, GD&T

Knowledgeable in metal fabrication and stampings or plastic component design and tooling

Design experience or Industry experience in School Bus manufacturing a plus
