Essential Job Functions:
Review all marketing, promotional and ecommerce materials for errors and inconsistencies in grammar, style, usage, format and style guidelines.
Act as final review before release to ensure all necessary edits have been captured and implemented.
Work directly with cross-functional partners including marketing, ecommerce, merchandising and legal teams to ensure deliverables contain the correct disclaimers, T&Cs, and legal copy.
Work with manager to establish brand editorial guidelines and maintain said guidelines with up-to-date naming conventions, type styling, grammar standards, promotional messaging hierarchies, and copy best practices.
Proactively respond to copy editing questions and provide feedback to copy team and other departments.
Have expert knowledge of brand editorial guidelines and voice, and can step in to support copywriting efforts where needed.
Manage themselves and work independently.
Additional duties as assigned by manager.
Build and maintain respectful partnerships with all teams across the company.
Other Duties and Responsibilities:
Overall Workload Allocation: 60% of time will be spent proofreading and editing marketing materials. 20% maintaining editorial center of excellence. 20% supporting copywriting efforts.
Nature of Supervision:
Report to Sr. Creative Management, ACD of Copy, collaborate and coordinate with other copywriters, designers, project owners and other departments as necessary to maintain copy standards and process flow. There is considerable latitude to complete assignments using copy editing and advertising experience and knowledge. Supervise proofing process with copywriter. Act as the final approval on copy projects as assigned.

Educational Background:
A four-year college degree in Journalism, Advertising or Communications with a discipline in Advertising is required. A minimum of five years' experience in-house or advertising agency copywriting with proven record of success, including three years’ experience in packaging or product marketing copywriting. Additionally, the following knowledge skillset and abilities are required:
Advanced writing and editing skills, including experience creating concise, compelling copy within tight schedule constraints.
Expert understanding of MLA formatting style guidelines.
Significant experience leading copy projects from inception to completion.
Complete working knowledge of marketing/advertising copy strategies.
Meticulous attention to detail.
Comprehensive understanding of MAC environment, Word, Excel and Typography functions.
Strong ability to accomplish goals through partnerships built on mutual trust, fairness, integrity and honesty.
Strong ability to partner and negotiate effectively with vendors and internal PETCO associates.
Strong ability to understand and communicate with a diverse set of leaders and associates at various levels and within various functional areas.
Strong ability to manage multiple responsibilities with the talent to shift center of focus from one task to another with minimal challenge.
A strong interest in pet merchandising.
Experience with vendor co-op driven advertising campaigns is desirable.
