Vice President, Marketing, Membership & Sales
SUMMARY
The Director, Media & Public Relations will be responsible for the development, direction, and implementation of the overall public relations and strategic positioning for NCPDP’s association/industry management initiatives. In partnership with NCPDP’s Executive Leadership, the Director will develop, manage, and execute communications products and media relations to disseminate key messages, accomplishments and impact, and storytelling to build visibility for NCPDP, as well as support relationship building with members, potential members and affiliates, other associations and SDOs and the media. This position works closely with the Vice President, Marketing, Membership & Sales and the Executive Vice President, Strategy & Industry Alignment to develop the organizational communications plan and to align with the vision, purpose, goals, and benchmarks for organizational success. The Director will also be responsible for the communications activity for communications and engagement with the EDvocacy team and the media to cultivate public relations opportunities that support NCPDP initiatives.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Working closely with Senior Leadership, develops multi-channel, integrated communications strategy to align with NCPDP’s vision, purpose, and strategic goals, developing communications products and storytelling while managing outreach to external audiences (e.g., stakeholder groups, media, and the public). Works closely with the Director, Marketing & Communications, to coordinate activities.
Maintains brand integrity in alignment with Marketing & Communications across all communications and platforms.
Writes opinion and other thought leadership pieces on behalf of leadership, including the President & CEO and COO, such as emails, blogs, opinion editorials, and articles.
Writes speeches/talking points and develops presentations for or in collaboration with NCPDP Executive Management Team. This includes the annual State of the Association address, President & CEO Leadership Appreciation Dinner, Board of Trustees Passing of Gavel speeches; and other speaking opportunities as needed.
Shapes messaging and positioning by serving as a resource to the Executive Management Team, Committees.
Works collaboratively with Industry Relations and EDvocacy teams to ensure awareness, alignment and cohesive communication across external audiences. Will create presentations and review supporting materials as required.
Fosters relationships with peers at strategic partner organizations (e.g., Elite Partner organizations) and other contacts to help meet organizational engagement, alignment and to maximize synergies.
Media Relations
Oversees and collaborates with media, manage and build relations, conduct outreach and serve as the primary point of contact for journalists.
Develops and pitches story ideas relevant to the progress and impact of the organization's strategic objectives.
Participates in media education initiatives in partnership with other organizations.
Conducts background research and prepare talking points for interviews.
Prepares written and digital materials (e.g., press releases, bylines, podcasts, blogs, multimedia, etc.) and develop messages, content, and other resources. Recommends strategies to engage in issues that may have impact on the NCPDP brand, including crisis communications, proactive and reactive communications.
Provide strategic counsel, when necessary, on issues that may dilute the brand.
Provides guidance for staff, when needed, to ensure message alignment.
Collaborates with the President & CEO to develop the President & CEO Staff Updates disseminated the first Tuesday of every month.
Supports the development of other industry and public relations from President & CEO and COO, as directed.
Organizational Relationships
The President & CEO and COO of NCPDP may during peak periods or when staff resources are limited, redirect staff to share duties and responsibilities of others.
Qualifications
Education: Bachelor’s degree in public relations, communications or a related field is desired, or any combination of education and experience providing specific knowledge, skills, and experience for successful performance.
Knowledge: Demonstrated knowledge of the healthcare/healthcare IT industry is required. Must have advanced knowledge of PowerPoint, general knowledge of other Microsoft products, and working knowledge of online delivery systems for educational programs.
Experience: More than five (5) years’ experience in copywriting, public relations, media relations, and marketing communications. Experience with governmental relations communications is desired.
Skills: Must possess strong verbal communication and writing skills. Must be very detail-oriented and have strong organizational skills. The position requires the ability to establish good working relationships and interact effectively, respectfully, and courteously with a wide range of people, including the media, government agencies, staff, NCPDP members, committee chairs, guest speakers, and the general public.
This position is full-time. Preference will be given to those who are able to work in the Scottsdale, AZ headquarters location.
