Department of Biological Sciences Temporary Faculty PoolThe Department of Cal Poly Humboldt is known for its very strong programs in the Biological Sciences. The strengths of our programs have been noted in studies by the National Science Foundation and the Dryfus, Keck, and Welch Foundation. We offer extensive research opportunities for both our undergraduate and graduate students. We offer three undergraduate majors and minors - Biology, Botany, and Zoology. Biology majors can elect to specialize in one of seven emphases. Our graduate program, M.S. in Biology, offers four emphases and we provide a variety of pre-professional health programs.Our programs emphasize hands-on learning and personal interaction with faculty members. Many of our courses take advantage of the outstanding natural environment surrounding Cal Poly Humboldt. We have excellent facilities including the marine laboratory in Trinidad; our ocean-going research vessel, the Coral Sea; biotechnology laboratory; greenhouses; Vertebrate Museum; Herbarium; scanning and transmission electron microscopes; Humboldt Natural History Museum; and the College Core Facility.Courses/Areas of Specialization:Courses offered by the department include: Human Biology, Genetics, Cell Biology, Marine Biology, General Microbiology, Biogeography, Plant/Animal Interactions, General Botany, Plant Ecology, Biology of Microfungi, Pollination Biology, Forest Pathology, Introductory Zoology, Animal Physiology, Herpetology, Mammalogy, General Entomology, and Advanced Topics.Qualifications:M.A./M.S. degree in an appropriate field and successful teaching experience in the field are required. Those with an M.A./M.S. degree in progress may be considered. Preferred qualifications include: Ph.D.; relevance of training and teaching experience to this course; and area of specialization. For lab instructor assignments only, a B.A./B.S. degree in an appropriate field and successful teaching experience, academic or professional work related to the appropriate field will be considered.Position Type:

Dependent on qualifications and experience.Appointees are typically placed at the beginning of the salary range. The full-time (15 units per semester) monthly base salaries indicated in the schedules above are prorated to the number of units worked and are paid in six monthly payments for each full semester.The University:
