This role may also be eligible to participate in a discretionary incentive program, subject to the rule governing the program.Position Summary:The Safety Specialist promotes safety programs and safety services for the company. This position initiates and implements safety and prevention programs and coordinates claims management activities. The Safety Specialist coordinates and evaluates programs that encourage employees to focus on healthy living and working safely.Position Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:Implement and deliver company’s safety and risk management initiativesAnalyze and interpret risk data to identify work opportunities and injury/collision prevention focusCoordinate Safety Committee meetings and activitiesConduct Safety meetings with key employees and managementConduct risk assessments of facilities and warehouses as well as risk issues identified in the trade/fieldReview recommendations to mitigate identified risks with local Safety leaderFacilitate Safety component of New Hire orientation and training as appropriateConduct safety training for employees and managementConduct training needs assessments and recommend training opportunitiesCoordinate with local management in the investigation of workplace injuries and collisionsCollaborate with Incident Management Team (IDM) to aid in managing claims to closureCoordinate with local management and human resources on modified duty assignments and the interactive process at the direction of the IDM teamCoordinate and participate in all Workers’ Compensation and Auto Liability claim reviewsParticipate in weekly management team meetingsOther projects or duties as assignedRequired Skills and Experience:Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Occupational Safety & Health, Risk Management or related field and 3 plus years of safety management and claims management (Workers’ Compensation and/or Auto Liability) experience or HS Diploma/GED and 6 plus years of safety management and claims management (Workers’ Compensation and/or Auto Liability) experienceExcellent verbal and written communication skillsAbility to facilitate training for all levels of employees within an organizationSelf-starter with ability to follow-up and follow throughAbility to work independently, as well as collaboratively within a team environmentProficient computer skills in Microsoft Office: Excel, Word and PowerPointAvailable to flex work time to support the company including after hours and on-callThis position must pass a post-offer background and drug testPreferred Skills and Experience:Certification in Safety i.e., Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Safety & Health Manager (CSHM), Certified Occupational Safety Specialist (COSS)Strong technical knowledge and background in OSHA/DOT regulatory standards, safety engineering, risk management and environmental protection.Experience within large warehouse, product distribution or trucking operationPhysical Demands and Work Environment:Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
