This role may also be eligible to participate in a discretionary incentive program, subject to the rule governing the program.Position Summary:The Director, Safety is responsible for leading the safety performance of the assigned territory by tying culture, technology, data, wellness and safety together. This position is responsible for mitigating risk and promoting safety programs and services by developing, implementing and evaluating safety and prevention programs that encourage the team members and their families to focus on healthy living and safe work promotion within the assigned territory.Position Responsibilities may include, but not limited to:Provide support around establishing a safety culture though engagement at all levels within the assigned territory.Lead and develop team of safety professionals within the assigned territory.Oversee safety and compliance programs and processes within the assigned territory including acting as the key contact for regulatory visits; develop, maintain and deploy SOPs related to EHS; implement technology and regulatory reporting as required.Perform or coordinate focused audits/risk assessments of compliance processes within the assigned territory to determine gaps, identify corrective action options and champion gap closures.Track and analyze safety metrics including IFR, AFR and DOT, CSA; provide analysis and recommendations for improvement.Support the assigned territory on new initiatives to enhance safety performance and risk reduction.Work with the corporate Integrated Disability Management and Liability departments to ensure proper and efficient handling of Workers’ Compensation, Auto Liability, and General Liability claims.Manage the incident reporting and investigation process to ensure accurate and timely reporting of all claim information to mitigate future similar injuries.Review monthly program outcomes within the assigned territory, make recommendations to enhance participation of current programs and develop/execute new programs.Travel up to 50%Other projects or duties as assignedRequired Skills and Experience:Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational Safety & Health, Risk Management or related field.At least 8 years safety management experience.Experience leading safety in multi-facility operations.Experience in distribution or manufacturing settings.Capability to lead and develop a safety culture through engagement of all levels.OSHA, DOT and EPA experience.Excellent interpersonal and collaboration skills; ability to interact with customers and employees at all levels of the organization.Proficient in Microsoft Office including Excel, Word and PowerPoint.Ability to facilitate training for all levels of employees, supervision and management.Self-starter with ability to follow-up and follow through and meet deadlines.Able to work independently, as well as collaboratively within a team environment.This position must pass a post-offer background and drug test.Preferred Skills and Experience:Safety Certification: Certified Safety & Health Manager (CSHM), Certified Safety Professional (CSP)/Associate Safety Professional (ASP), Certified Occupational Safety Manager (CSHM), etc.Bi-lingual (Spanish speaking).Strong technical knowledge and background in CalOSHA and CUPA regulatory standards.Experience within large warehouse, production distribution/trucking operations.Physical Demands and Work Environment :Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
