Position SummaryThe Director of Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) leads the company's safety performance by integrating culture, technology, data, wellness, and safety initiatives. This position focuses on mitigating risks and promoting safety programs and services by developing, implementing, and evaluating prevention programs, encouraging team members and their families to prioritize healthy living and safe work practices within their designated areas.
This individual will support the planning and implementation of various initiatives to ensure a safe, healthy, and incident-free work environment for every team member. The role also involves providing technical and compliance expertise, supporting daily health and safety operations, and ensuring proper reporting of all injuries, health and safety concerns, environmental regulatory compliance, audit/inspection corrective actions, and safety issues.
Job Responsibilities
The development of health and safety programs and standards at a Company and Business Unit level and is accountable for achieving year-over-year reductions in the frequency and severity of occupational injuries, illness, incident, and motor vehicle collisions.
Providing strategic vision, leadership, and operational execution of environmental, health, and safety performance consistent with IDC’s Safety expectations.
Leads safety programs including, but not limited to ergonomics, behavior-based safety, incident reduction, worksite analysis, hazard prevention and control, and employee engagement.
Serves as an EHS subject matter expert and coaches others within the business unit operations.
Researches, evaluates, and recommends changes to improve the EHS performance.
Provides support to the Business Unit during regulatory inquiries, enforcement proceedings, and litigation.
Provides visibility on EHS progress, performance, and issues to the VP of Operations and Leadership Teams.
Provide daily and continuous EHS support to all the locations.
Ensure effective and sustainable EHS Management System, programs, and processes are in place.
Partner with and educate business unit functions to assure that employee safety, practices, and compliance with EHS regulations are supported.
Recommend Health and Safety goals and objectives, as well as support the organization in the implementation of the EHS goals and objectives.
Establish, input, and report metrics pertinent to the EHS activities.
Obtain and maintain EHS records and required documents as required by law.
Manage EHS job functions for duties such as facility and jobsite observations, risk assessments, EHS training and compliance, workplace incident analysis, ergonomic assessments, EHS inspections, corrective action/preventative action status, data collection and analysis of internal audits and systems.
Conduct compliance reviews, general risk assessments and other EHS assessments
Coach, train, guide, support, and mentor the Safety Manager and Specialist
Review all accidents/incidents and investigate, analysis, reporting, and managing of the corrective actions.
Lead, participate, and support severe/critical incident investigations and Root Cause Analysis as needed.
Assist and support in the development and presentation of relevant EHS training.
Ability to work with employees and leadership to achieve cultural change.
Travel throughout the Business Unit as required/needed to perform any additional duties as needed.

Minimum Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational Safety & Health, Risk Management or related field.
At least 8 years safety management experience.
Experience leading safety in multi-facility operations.
Experience in distribution or manufacturing settings.
Capability to lead and develop a safety culture through engagement of all levels.
OSHA, DOT and EPA experience.
Excellent interpersonal and collaboration skills; ability to interact with customers and employees at all levels of the organization.
Proficient in Microsoft Office including Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
Ability to facilitate training for all levels of employees, supervision and management.
Self-starter with ability to follow-up and follow through and meet deadlines.
Able to work independently, as well as collaboratively within a team environment.
Skills and Competencies
Safety Certification: Certified Safety & Health Manager (CSHM), Certified Safety Professional (CSP)/Associate Safety Professional (ASP), Certified Occupational Safety Manager (CSHM), etc.
Bi-lingual (Spanish speaking).
Strong technical knowledge and background in CalOSHA and CUPA regulatory standards.
Experience within large warehouse, production distribution/trucking operations.
Disciplined planning and organizing skills.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and be flexible.
Ability to perform job duties with high attention to detail and accuracy.
Excellent communication skills.
Ability to effectively handle uncertainties and must be an advocate for change.
Use a computer for tasks such as communicating via email and preparing reports and work schedule.
Review and analyze data and information .
Plan, prioritize and monitor activities.
Comply with all Company policies and procedures
Strong knowledge of Logistics and Supply Chain Management on operational, tactical and strategic level.
Highly analytical with in-depth understanding of business, IT and process requirements.
Willingness for extensive business travel when needed during assigned projects
