JOB DESCRIPTION

Job purpose

This position oversees organizational compliance with local, state, and federal environmental, health and safety regulations and develops and directs the Company’s safety & security functions, including physical security & safety of employees, facilities, and assets.

Duties and responsibilities

Directs EHS activities including planning, implementing, and managing technical performance to ensure quality and financial objectives are attained.

Directs EHS project(s) including project design and schedule to meet objectives. Directs the development of short and long-term EHS objectives and recommends goals to management.

Maintains all necessary permits for Environmental and Regulatory Compliance.

Ensures that appropriate corrective action is taken where health and safety hazards exist.

Directs activities related to EHS programs and ensures company compliance with any applicable regulations and reviews requirements regarding safety aspects.

Develops appropriate electronic and hard copy reports and records. Develops new or revises existing electronic or hard copy systems and makes internal and external presentations.

Collaborates with senior and executive management to develop and implement current and annual technical, quality, and financial objectives for the EHS program(s) to ensure strategic business objectives are met. Participates in the development of annual and long-term objectives for the organization.

Represents the organization as a primary spokesperson with operations supervisors, managers, technical staff, and outside representatives.

Promotes workplace safety and assists in the development, maintenance, and management of EHS programs at the site(s), including proactive incident and illness prevention, respiratory protection, contractor safety, and hazardous chemical management.

Completes all regulatory reporting requirements (Fire, OSHA, EPA).

Manages Safety Committee activities, agenda preparations, reports, follow-ups, and incentive programs.

Manages all safety programs, conducts training, and manages documentation, including but not limited to: Lockout/Tagout, Injury and Illness Prevention Plan (IIPP), Evacuation Procedures, PPE, Pedestrian Safety, Ergonomics, Heat Stress, Bloodborne Pathogens.

Compiles, analyzes, maintains, and interprets safety statistical data related to exposure factors concerning occupational illnesses and accidents, first aid incidents, near miss records and conducts root cause analysis for accident reports and evaluates injury case studies.

Performs quarterly safety walks with department managers, safety committee, insurance carriers, or consultants.

Supports onboarding and orientation safety training.

Provides support for worker’s compensation claims including intake, investigation, reporting and return to work efforts.

Performs other duties as assigned or required.

Qualifications

Required

Five to seven years’ experience in environmental, safety & security related positions

Experience in manufacturing plant settings

Completion of OSHA 10 training

Travel required 25–30%

Work is hybrid – office and plant.

Thorough knowledge of practices and methods for developing and administering a comprehensive EHS program, including designing employee EHS training programs.

Proficient in performing EHS assessments to identify workplace hazards and determining appropriate control measures.

Broad knowledge of the methods and practices for conducting accident and workplace safety audits and investigations required.

Extensive technical understanding of environmental health and safety principles, concepts, theories, regulations, and practices; and comprehensive leadership skills including organizing, planning, budgeting, scheduling, and coordinating workloads to meet established deadline or milestones; and the ability to understand new concepts quickly and apply them accurately throughout an evolving environment.

Ability to identify, analyze, interpret, and resolve unusually complex management and technical problems; Excellent verbal and written communication skills to accurately document, report, and present findings.

Excellent interpersonal skills to effectively interface with all levels of employees, senior management, and senior outside representatives.

Ability to maintain the confidentiality of sensitive information.

Excellent computer skills.

Experience writing technical business policies, procedures, and reports.

Preferred

Master’s degree

Certified Safety Professional (CSP)

Working conditions

This job operates in an office and manufacturing plant environment. This role uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filling cabinets and fax machine.

Physical requirements

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit 70%, walk 10%, stand 20%, lift up to 50 lbs. Employee must be able to see and hear, read, write, process simple math calculations, withstand moderate amounts of stress, adapt, analyze, assess, calculate, make decisions, be dependable, use good judgment, memorize, and speak.
