Position Summary:Provide health, safety and environmental (EHS) direction, leadership, and training to the EHS Department and throughout the Company to ensure continuous improvement in EHS performance. This position works with the operations and human resources team to administer the compliance programs, procedures, and policies and acts as a liaison with regulatory agencies when necessary.
Essential Functions:
Oversees the health, safety, and environmental programs, including developing, writing, implementing, auditing, and maintaining policies and procedures in compliance with company, local, state and federal rules and regulations.
Keeps safety personnel, plant personnel, and management updated on safety standards, and regulatory updates.
Plans and implements programs to train managers and employees in workplace safety practices, fire prevention, and correct handling techniques for chemical, toxins, equipment, and other materials.
Directs and coordinates, through subordinate managerial personnel, activities of operations department to obtain optimum and safe use of equipment, facilities, and personnel.
Reviews and analyzes expenditure, financial, and operations reports to determine annual department budget needs.
Recommends capital expenditures for acquisition of new equipment that would increase operational efficiencies and eliminate safety hazards and risks.
Approves requisitions for equipment, materials, and supplies within limits of the department budget.
Maintains consistent involvement in specific safety and environmental concerns at all facilities.
Ensures all sites remain up-to-date and in compliance with OSHA regulations including required notices and recordkeeping.
Leads weekly safety meetings, and coordinates all EHS training, communications, and program management activities.
Inspects facilities for potential EHS risks, determines corrective or preventive measures where indicated, and follows up to ensure measures have been implemented.
Leads the Root Cause Analysis (RCA) investigation of incidents, injuries, and near misses and drives action items to closure.
Manages all OSHA, DOT complaints and investigations as needed alongside other executive leadership, and legal counsel.
Evaluates, benchmarks, and implements the EHS and LMS systems and annually audits data integrity, utilization, reporting.
Develops partnerships with safety vendors and manages programs to ensure proper PPE gear, Safety shoes are provided.
Develops and directs a safety committee comprised of employees throughout the organization and varying departments to gather feedback on effectiveness of safety programs, identify threats, develop training, and plan the annual safety fair.
Facilitates environmental programs with the assistance of the operations team.
Facilitates the reporting and follow-up of workplace incidents and accidents with the appropriate agencies.
Works alongside Human Resources to manage Workers Compensation claims and ensure return to work processes are in place.
Direct and guide the job skills analysis and task assessments to ensure they are completed for labor job and audited annually.
Demonstrates management's commitment to safety by promoting safety awareness at all levels of organization.
Complies with and is an advocate of the company's Environmental Policy and Procedures.
Participate in projects as requested by management.
All other duties and projects as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in occupational safety or related field ; or ten (10) years combination of education and experience.
At least ten (10) years of related experience is required, within a similar environment and position.
OSHA 10 and 30, CPR and First Aid certification preferred.
Use of EHS accident, incident software and learning management system (LMS) is required.
Strong analytical skills with ability to deliver high quantity work that is consistently accurate and timely.
Strong decision making and analytical abilities, with high attention to detail and strong communication/listening skills.
Possess a strong work ethic and team player mentality.
Bilingual (English/Spanish) is preferred.
