Job Description - DIRECTOR-FIRST YEAR EXPERIENCE (FYE) PROGRAMS (T219920)The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) is seeking a dynamic and experienced leader to serve as the Director of Freshman Year Experience (FYE) Programs. The Director will oversee the development, implementation, and assessment of programs designed to support the academic, social, and personal success of first-year students. This role involves strategic planning, collaboration with faculty and staff, and direct supervision of FYE program staff.Key Responsibilities:Program Leadership and Development:

Lead the strategic planning, development, and implementation of the Freshman Year Experience (FYE) programs.Develop innovative initiatives to enhance the first-year student experience, including orientation, first-year seminars, peer mentoring, and co-curricular activities.Collaborate with academic departments, student services, and other campus entities to integrate FYE programs into the broader university experience.

Staff Supervision and Development:

Supervise and mentor FYE program staff, including the Associate Director of First Year Programs.Provide professional development opportunities for staff to ensure high-quality program delivery and continuous improvement.

Student Engagement and Success:

Foster a supportive environment that promotes student engagement, academic achievement, and personal growth.Develop and implement strategies to support the transition of first-year students, with a focus on retention, persistence, and success.Oversee the coordination of first-year UASC seminars, academic workshops, and social integration activities.

Assessment and Evaluation:

Establish and implement a comprehensive assessment plan to evaluate the effectiveness of FYE programs.Analyze data related to student retention, academic performance, and satisfaction to inform program improvements.Prepare regular reports on program outcomes and present findings to university leadership.

Collaboration and Partnerships:

Work closely with faculty, staff, and administrators to ensure FYE programs are aligned with the university’s mission and goals.Develop partnerships with campus and community organizations to enhance the FYE program offerings.Represent the FYE programs on various university committees and task forces.

Qualifications:Master's degree in Academic Advising, Higher Education Administration, Student Affairs, Counseling or related field required and five (5) years of related experience with a focus on student success, first-year programs, advising or student affairs.
