Sagis Diagnostics is an entirely physician-led sub-specialty pathology group supported by a CAP-accredited histology lab located in the heart of Houston, Texas. Led by a team of board-certified pathologists, our lab is at the forefront of diagnostic science. Sagis Diagnostics is seeking a qualified Pathologist (AP/CP boarded) to serve as Laboratory Director of a 200+ bed acute care hospital located near Houston, Texas. The Pathologist at this facility would provide professional pathology services in addition to serving as Laboratory Director of the clinical and histology labs. Additional duties would include providing laboratory stewardship and participation in hospital committees. Support for pathology cases requiring consultation or sub-specialty expertise will be provided through remote or digital methodologies.
FUNCTIONS OR SCOPE OF ASSIGNED DUTIESThe combined anatomic and clinical pathologist is able to perform the following services required in the practice of Pathology:
Application of accepted criteria in formulation and reporting diagnostic information on various anatomic pathology specimens to include surgical pathology including dermatopathology, cytopathology, and podiatric pathology.Provide clinical laboratory consultation to technical personnel and healthcare providers.Participation in Quality Assurance measures for laboratory sections as required by accreditation standards.Teaching of residents, medical students, allopathic medicine students and other healthcare personnel who seek training within the field of Pathology.
Duties to include but are not limited to:Interpreting clinical laboratory data and communicating conclusions effectively with providers, residents and students; providing consultation to providers when appropriate.Performing gross and microscopic examination of surgical and cytologic cases and providing reports in a timely manner. The AP/CP pathologist is ultimately responsible for diagnostic interpretation of specimens.The AP/CP pathologist will provide residents and/or trainees information on specimen processing and evaluation.Providing rapid assessment for adequacy of specimens such as obtained by fine-needle aspiration.Processing and interpretation of intraoperative frozen sections including gross intraoperative interpretations as needed and intraprocedural consultation as requested.Interpretation/sign-out of surgical pathology specimens within departmental guidelines for turnaround time.Appropriate ordering/interpretation of immunohistochemical stains and special stains.Participate in review of Quality Assurance measures including 10% retrospective review of all anatomic pathology and dermatopathology cases and other internal service data to meet regulatory requirements as designated by Medical Director.Review hematology slide, body fluids and issue diagnostic interpretation.Participate in required continuing medical education (CME) in order to maintain licensure/privileges.Responsible for diagnostic expertise and sign-out in any area for which sub-specialty fellowship training has been completed.Accurate and timely pathology diagnosis.Provide consultation to clinical colleagues.

Basic RequirementsMust hold a Degree of Doctor of Medicine.Current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.Must be certified by the American Board of Pathology in Anatomic Pathology or Dermatopathology.Must be able to read, write, and speak English.
Preferred Experience:
Additional Training or experience in Dermatopathology are preferred.
